Minor wiring problem.

Hey guys...I just picked up a new headunit last night, along with the Camaro wiring harness. This morning, I wired the old wires to the new wiring harness, and then connected the wiring harness to the headunit. The headunit, however, did not work.

This is what I think happened: The pre-existing wiring in the camaro is joined at three plugs. A white, a blue, and a black. The black plug has the battery wires, both switch and stationary. After it didnt work, I took a look at those plugs...And the black plug was missing one of the four connection recievers inside of it. While the blue and white had four of those inside, the black only had three. However, there were only three wires going into the black plug, so maybe it only requires three recievers and I'm just an idiot.

So, I'm definitely new to this, and tried to tackle it on my own, and was doing fine until, well...it all kinda fell through. =)

If anyone could give me some suggestions on what went wrong...or verification that the black plug from the original wiring does in fact have a missing reciever, that would be great.

Thanks again

Here's some help, http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/GM-Wiring.pdf.

The black connector should have power antenna lead, 12V ignition, dimmer, and ground. Your battery power is on the 4th connector. That may be your problem why your H/U is not working.

If you don't have a power antenna, there will probably be only 3 wires into the black plug.

I do not have one...and there are only three wires going into the black plug. However, the black plug itself...The one that attaches into the new wiring harness, only has 3 metal connectors inside of it...as opposed to the 4 that the other two connectors have.

I have a 86 camaro, Im not sure about the number of wires in the black plug , but did you plug up the other plug with a single wire to it (yellow or orange) it is a little thin white plug .I guess 87s have it to, that plug gives power i think. hope this helps
