Sound deadening (dynamate type) in trunk/back - where ?

Sound deadening (dynamate type) in trunk/back - where ?

When you guys put a custom built subwoofer box in the trunk well, where do you guys insulate i.e. dynamate etc ... everywhere ?? That would be tough and require quite a bit of material

Any pics would help *lol*


Should I sound "proof" the metal part of the hatch ?

Axle/Gears: precision 3.73's, auburn diff
everywhere. i did the metal part of the hatch, being that my subs fire right at it. dynamat is overpriced. raammat and second skin are just as good as dynamat extreme, and quite a bit better than regular dynamat, and a hell of a lot cheaper. 62.5 square feet of raammat is about 120 bucks.

myself and gummie both have threads with pictures of our deadener installs.

I would suggest staying away from mat all together and going with liquid deadener instead. It's a ton easier to apply (just doing my roof took me 4 hours) but it does have the downside of multiple layers and drying time. There is a trade off between the two: the more layers the thinner they can be and the faster they will dry (and vice versa). I have mat on my roof and plan on doing the rest of my car with v3 as soon as I get the cage in (a month or so if I had to guess). Can’t really weld to a deadened floor

so it does rattle quite a bit otherwise without the sound deadening ?

I may have put my rubber matting in the wrong spots lol

it definitely helps rattles, but thats just a side effect of its intended purpose, which is deadening sound.

know how it makes a much different sound when you knock on a metal panel, like the panels of your car, and when you knock on something like a foam mat? bass and sound in general does the same thing. its hard to describe the difference in sound without hearing it, but its probably the best money i spent on my stereo period.

i still have rattles, but not like i did. what do you mean by rubber matting? to properly deaden the car, you're going to have to rip it apart, and i mean everything. i pulled all the interior panels, seats, carpet, lights, the plastic panel that covers the metal part at the rear of the hatch itself, basically everything but the doors and only because i ran out of deadener. plan on spending 2-4 days at the very least on it, more likely 4-7. PITA to do, but well worth it.

I deadened my ENTIRE car from top to bottom front to back and it made a world of difference in the car. I used
RAAMaudio
stuff. I doubled it up on the doors and I may have gone a little too far because I had ot readjust the door hinges. I guess the weight of the matting and the aging door hinges made the door sink down a little bit.

Had some rubber gasket material laying around, so I put that in the trunk. Going to put aluminum backed sound deadener over it, before I put the carpet with it's padding on top. And I' guess I'll do something about the inside of all the plastic panels too.

the key to sound deadning is getting the material to stick up against the inside of the car. Just laying some rubber padding down isnt going to go a whole lot IMO.

yeah its not just reflecting sound, but killing resonance in metal. that tinging sound that all metal has, is from vibration, like a cymbal. sound deadener doesnt do much good unless its applied to the metal itself. doing what you just said would be a major waste of effort, materials, and money IMO.

Yeah, when I applied it, wasn't really that warm out anyway so the stuff didn't stick 100 percent, so I jerry rigged it and ductaped between the pieces.

Any kind of adhesive I could use ?

i know there is spray on adhesive i dont rember what the stuff my buddy used but when using spray on adhesive make sure u let is stit for a Minuit b4 u put on the dynomat because u dont want the fumes of that stuff trapped in ur car (least he clames thatll happen)

It took my friend and I 2 days to do rear pillars on back, 3rd day for jus tme to do the floors... I also kinda insulated my rear wheel wells since a lot of noise comes in through that... with "dynamat" and then a liquid over (it's black, pic looks purple... A lot of work, but worth it for my ride...

Whoa! That looks like a tough job! I won't have enough time to put all of those in a single day.

I finally got my KR nose, so my car isn't grounded anymore... did some foam on top of the Second Skin audio stuff... I still have tons of wiring to do, but this way I can put down some junk mats til the wiring is done, then the new carpet and mats...

I went the peel and seal route in mine, since it's so easy to go to Lowes and get more.



When I put the new carpet in, I decided to do the entire car since I had it all out anways.

Now someday I'll actually put a motor back in, and then a system and be able to enjoy my work
