Pics of Silver/Gray Headunits in a Thirdgen?
I'm shopping around for a new headunit and I really like the Kenwood KDC-MP732 but it's silver. It seems like most of the new headunits are silver in fact. Can you guys post some pics of your headunit in the car if it's silver. I'm not sure if I'll like how it looks with everything else on the console being black and my tan interior. If I go with the Kenwood I was thinking I can still paint the trim ring black and just leave the faceplate silver as it has a lot of black on it as well. Any pics would be greatly appreciated.

This is an older unit I pulled from my SUV. I put a KDC-X889 in the SUV. Can't go wrong with a Kenwood.

That headunit is black isn't it? I have such a hard time distinguishing color on the computer screen. Haha.

I had a kenwood kdc-7007 for for 5 years. It folded up, and the mask surface basically matched the stock console texture. All the buttons were black and the graphics colors were identical to the amber gauges at night. I agree with you, and cant stand all the new silver HU's. It just ruins the front of the car. Im having a hard time finding a new HU that I like with aux input.

Day late but here it is. And yes I know the car is a mess
I just pulled it out of storage and am cleaning/ putting it back together lol.
The silver doesn't bother me so much as I plan to match the gauge faces and HVAC controls with silver ( and flush mount the head unit.. just more interested in doing the big install in the daily driver Maxima at the moment )
What bothers me more is the blue backlighting since I had planned on using red interior lighting but that would make the radio look out of place.
Anyway here are 2 pics -

Search for Jim85IROC's install pics. Silver and as clean an install as you'll find. For those that like the silver check out the Pioneer DEH-P880. Sweet HU.

In my opinion, the silver can look out of place unless the car has other silver trim. But... my gripe is less with the color than the overall design... most new head units look very out of place in a thirdgen.
Here's a pic of my silver JVC in my Camaro. It looks a lot better now that I've got an aluminum shift **** and steering wheel.

Very nice setup Jim. My personal taste is that the silver just doesn't seem to fit in from what I've been seeing but to each their own. And I can definitely appreciate the custom work you did on your setup.

The silver was definately out of place, but now that I've got a bit of aluminum in the interior, it works better. Down the road my plan is to get some more brushed aluminum into the interior (nothing tacky though), and hopefully that'll tie it together a little more.

I'll have some new interior pics soon.
I'm not too far from ordering my new carpet and floor mats, headliner, sail panels, sun-visors, and t-top shades. I've also got a set of GTA door panels that I refinished that I'll be using to replace my stock door panels. Once I get all of that done, the interior should start to come together nicely.

Jay, where did you get that wheel cover?
I opted for the Sony CDX-GT200, because of its clean design. Doesn't clash at all with the eighties interior, and the dial and display are a nice contrasting blue and red, matching the heater/cooler controls right above it. It actually inspired me to buy red lights for my instrument cluster........ Now I just have to figure out how to turn the green bits on my cluster to blue.

Ok well I've got two headunits now in my possession...well almost. I bought the Kenwood EZ500 today at a retail shop but I also won a XXV-01D on ebay and I think that's the one I'll use.
