5.25 Component Dash Conversion. Interested?

In my two previous Camaro's('83 Z28, '91 RS), I replaced the stock 4x6 dash speakers with 5.25 components. The swap was very easy, but many of you have came to me individually to ask me how I did it, what I needed to do, etc. I am about to order some new 5.25 components at my work(Best Buy), and I was wondering how many of you would really be intersted in a step-by-step guide. If not, I'll just slap'em in and show'em off when their installed.

It's not a difficult task, sure the components add a little more work, but it's a definite upgrade from the 4x6's!

PLEASE DO! I personally am going to be using the alpine type r components. I would be greatly in debt to you if you did this. Shoot, i think i would send you a set to do the tech article and pay to have them shipped back to me!

If you don't do it. I will make it my mission to get you banned! lol. It would be nice to have a diffrent place for speakers then the kicks. My friend has the stock bose kicks with a t56. And there's not much room between the pedel and the kick. So I would hate to see what it's going to be like when you add a aftermarket kick panel. Adam :-)

I am interested too. I have been wondering how to do this myself cause I dont really care to much for the sound coming from below me with kicks.

Haha, I just asked to see who is interested, I'm bout poor again! I just spend $80 replacing my distributor cap, rotor bug, ignition coil and such... then I need to replace my Bosch plugs and wires.

I'm glad to see you guys are real interested. Previously, I had the tweeters in the A-Pillars and it just adds a more dynamic sound to the car, giving the speakers much better range because the sound is coming at you from multiple angles instead of just from the dash. The only 4x6's I'd recommend anyway are the Inifinity 4x6, partly because of their design, but still small speakers.

Cam, when you mount the 5.25 components in that location, where do you place the crossovers?

Under dash near the 5.25 woofer... then ran wires up and behind the A-Pillar to where I mounted the tweeters.

count me in too. i tried to put a 5.25 speaker in the dash but the magnet on the speaker hits the top of the gauge cluster. i also tried to put in a 4x6 component plate speaker in there and had the same depth problem.

from what i read you need to notch the top of the cluster, but... since i dont have a third gen, i cant tell you where and how to notch it or sell my damn speakers so that i can make my car payments. If someone was close to me and interested i would definetely help them tackle the project if they bought my speakers. 250 for type r 6x9 and 5.25 coaxals are a darn good price but noone wants something theyre not sure about.

(once again sorry for the plug)https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/inte...-speakers.html

So what happened to the "step by step guide"?

I'm probably going this route, skip the doors and 6.25's in the rears + subs...
