No signal to my 15" JL
No signal to my 15" JL
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could shoot me some ideas as to what is causing my JL 15 to not work or help with a little feedback on what I think is wrong. I want to hook up my subwoofer amp and leave my other speakers unamped for now (because they sound great without the extra power atm). My JL seems to not be getting any signal at all. Both of my amps power up perfectly.
If I had to guess, I would guess that either:
A: my ground sucks (any recommended grounds in the trunk for a 92 camaro?)
B: my head unit rca out quit working during the swap (unlikely)
Checked monster rca cables working perfect
Battery wire checked (4 guage wire hot off the battery with checked inline fuse).
Checked JL 15 with aa battery trick.
Checked all fuses in both amps.
Tried both of my working amps.
Remote wire off my head unit, tested and working fine.
Checked settings on both amps

I only had 1 amp hooked up, and I didn't even think about testing a different another speaker
I'll go check that out with an old 6x9. The "working amps" are the ones that I pulled out of my old car. They were working when I pulled them out so I'm sure they still do.

Another test you can do, (this is the country method of testing hehe) is take a small pair of headphones off of like a portable cd player or something, and hold it against the rca jack at an angle so the grounds are touching, and the center pins are touching. the line level audio signal should be strong enough for you to hear sound coming from the headphones. It wont be loud, but it will tell you if you are getting signal to the amps.
If you know anyone who fixes electronics, see if they will check your headunits output on an oscilloscope.

Bye bye jl 15
Well, after doing some more testing it turns out I didn't have a solid enough ground.
It also turns out that without the second amp draining some of the power from my sub's amp my previous settings are high enough to blow my woofer... Bum deal.
