Stereo upgrade
I am finally upgrading the stereo and speakers in my car. They are not a huge improvement, but its a start. When I bought my car in Sept, she came with an 8 year old JVC and I would imagine the speakers in the back are stock. I haven't installed them yet because my car is stored for the winter. I have included pics of what the stereo and speakers look like. I went with Pioneer speakers because they are pretty reliable and for a reasonable price you get ywo pretty good speakers with good sound. With the stereo itself I went a little off the board by buying a Dual XDM7510. This stereo is very good looking with a 2-step motorized face. Let me know what ya think.
The speakers in the dash do not work. Does anyone know a good place to get a set?

Are there any places in St. John's that sell Pioneer? For the dash you need to get 4x6".

the dual brand radios are pretty good when it comes to sound quality. i ran a dual's base model for about 4 months in my TA and about 6 in my Civic Hatch. never had a problem with it. now its in my dads truck and i have his sony active black panel model. i cant remember the model number. i want a alpine, but at the same time a rockford fosgate ravdvd1 so i can watch dvd's and have a dvd full of music.

Although I am not from St. John's... there is no doubt in my mind that you can purchase Pioneer speakers somewhere in that town. BTW are these the kind of speakers you are talking about for the dash? (look below)

ill answer for him, no they are not the 4x6 speakers he was talking about. those look like 5 1/4" round speakers. 4x6 speakers look/has a square basket and oval speaker.

yes i have twice. and my speakers as well. i have some rockford fosgate 4 inch speakers im getting ready to install today actually in place of the 5 1/4" speakers i have in the dash. i also have mb quart components in the sail panels which are getting replaced by rockford fosgate 6x9" later down the road. i also have a 12" SPL 1200 watt sub getting fed 250-400 watts continuous in a 1.5 cubic foot sealed box(twice the recomended sealed specs). thats just to give you a idea of what im running at the time.

Thats a crazy stereo. I am just getting going on my overhaul. The stereo is first and then in the spring I want to paint her, new seats, new steering wheel, new upholstry(carpet). You have any subwoofer suggestions? I hear that third gens are notoriously difficult when it comes too box fitting.

it actually depends on how loud you want it to be. but since i work for a car audio dealer i can tell ya that kicker seems to be one of the best for all around sound. you should look into kickers L5, L7, CVR, and COMP series. if you want deafening sound the L7 is top of the game. if you want some nice yet suttle sound the COMP's will suffice. the L5 and CVR's are about the same. the only difference is that the L5's are square and the CVR's are round. the L5's will take more wattage, but cost are about the same. the L7 series is the most expensive and the COMP's are the cheapest.

NO NO NO to the Dual. NO NO NO. They sell those at Wal-Mart for christs sake, there is a reason for that. I bought one, had it for four months and it took a crap. Alot of my friends had one too, NONE of them had good luck with them. The faceplate motors gave out, they wouldn't eject CD's, mine randomly froze. I suggest spending money and getting a nice CD player, STAY AWAY from the Dual's.
Edit: I guess it's too late, you already bought it.

The motorized face is what caught my eye, but I only spend about $190 bucks so if I get a year out of it I won't complain..... too much

Goalie for life, there's a place called crutchfields that does mail order i've been using them for a long time and they have all kinds of stereo components.they are a little more expensive but customer service is excellant. There technical staff is very knowledgeable and helpful I recommend them highly. They have custom made speaker enclosures for subs as well as for the kick panels. The kick panels hold up to a six inch separate pair with tweeters. They sound much better than the dash speakers.Just google them.

I live in Canada so that adds a little to the price.

I also have to consider the delivery charges to Canada, so it may be cheaper to stick with the Dual for now.
