ported enclouser

i right now have 2 type r's (10's) in a sealed box , for the well (this one right here)

http://cgi.ebay.com/CUSTOM-10-SUBWOO...QQcmdZViewItem

i am not exactly sure on each sides cubed side but i wanted to have ported box made for these 2 10''s tuned for high base but i dont want it to get in the way of the back window , any one have a nice ported box that dont get in the way at all of drivers view? most of the boxes i seen ported seemed huge but were running 12's or 15's and i was hoping mine would run a smaller cubed box made from CAR ESSENTIALS in albany would be worth it or just keep em in the current box

i had plans of building it in the takin out back seats but a few people said they just wont sound as good as in the rear

currently also waiting for jim to make some kick panels =\

You plan on continuing to use your Type-R's? You want AT LEAST 2cubic feet per sub.

even fore the 10's i thought cubes needed went down i know the 12's need at least Alpine Type-R = 1.7472 Liters for the 12's displacemnt , not sure if liters = to the cubed factor or not , but if they need for 10's say 1.0 then that would = 2 cubed , then

... Still go with 2cubs PER sub. That's how I and my other guys build the ported boxes. You could get away with around 1.7 per sub, but don't take the risk of building a complete box and it being slightly below what the subs really want.

i've built many boxes for our cars, & i have one in mine as well with 2-12's. this is what u need to do, forget about using fiberglass, since the sides & bottom wont be seen anyway. what i do first is to remove that part of the carpet, u can save it if u want to put it back one day. then i build the box piece by piece, then glue & screw together. the front & bottom side will each be one straight piece, sides one piece, the back will be 5 pieces, obviously to fit around the latch assembly. the top can be one or two pieces, & if u want to fiberglass the top over the wood, or u can cover the wood like i did take your time & in about three hours u will have a bad mother shut yo mouth. since u are using 10's just build the box as big as will fit & deal with airspace later since u will have more than enuff for 10's. mine has two 12'' vegas & it blows waves like u wouldn't believe. let me know how it turns out...

What?

Anyway, fiberglassing the bottom will be a more efficient use of space than building it all out of wood, but it will be more difficult and more time consuming.

Regardless of whether you do 'glass or wood, it's very important to get the airspace and the port tuning correct. If you don't, you'll have a 1-note wonder. Keep in mind that the port size is highly dependant on the enclosure volume. In other words, tuning a port to 30hz in a 1 cube box requires a totally different port than tuning to 30hz in a 2 cube box, so you have to know precisely what your airspace is before you calculate your port tuning.

I would suggest downloading a copy of WinISD so that you can experiment with enclosure volume. This will help you arrive at a suitable enclosure, and will also allow you to see what differences there will be by altering the volume or tuning frequency.

Building a sealed a box a bit too big or a bit too small is no big deal, but when it comes to ported boxes, it's critical to be accurate if you want it to sound good.
