Speaker problem, is it the amp?

Hi Guy’s

Ok Last year before I put my car away for the winter I had an annoying crackling/ tearing noise coming from the drivers side front dash speaker, after a few weeks it just stopped working all together. Thinking that I’d lost the speaker I decided that during the winter I’d upgrade the speakers (seeing how their 15 years old) and get rid of my speaker problem. Well I fitted some 4x6 Pioneer TS-G4640R speakers to replace the old ones, and still have the same problem! The speaker (the oval part & the tweeter) when the radio is turned on just pulls down and stays there with no sound coming from it at all. I’ve tested the wires to those speakers for continuity and all checks out. I’ve herd that an amp failure in the radio can cause a loss like this, is it true?
I took my radio cassette, which is the oem 21 pin Delco with the five band graphic equalizer to my local radio repair shop to see if they could do anything and of course (living in England!) they didn’t even know what it was!!
I was told that even if they did find the problem they wouldn’t be able to get the parts.
Anyone got any ideas what the problem could be or where I can get parts? I want to keep this radio not only for authenticity but because it’s in mint condition and apart from a dodgy speaker it works great.

Cheers guy’s Speed.

I would say something internal in the deck if all the wires check out. Time for a new one.

My first guess was a speaker going out. But since that you have replaced it I would check for any loose wires from your deck to the speaker.

If that checks out then one of your decks channnels or sides are going out or is out. That sucks, it can be rebuilt but for the price go for a new head unit.

Yeah that'd just be my luck! Might have to try and see if I can get one off ebay, but I doubt that I'd get one in as good condition
