When you say you "screwed up" are you refering to the purchase of the 84??? The vehicle you purchased should have a standard stereo already installed in it!! If you would like to install a CD player or anything more modern then a "STOCK 84 STEREO" I would suggest taking the car into an audio shop!!!

It sounds like you bought a Berlinetta. I am not sure what your options are for, though.

Why would you take to audio store. He brought a Camaro, not a rolls royce. Time to read and learn. Buy a nice stereo at walmart and the adapter kit and pull the piece of crap out. A meter, some wire nuts and black tape. Start tracing wires for speakers. Your hot wire and accesory wire and ground.

I have an 85' berlinetta, and it looks like whoever had before me just cut a hole where the radio should be, and the trim that comes with radio covers up the edges, but there may be a better way I don't know.

Just buy an installation kit, and a wiring adapter to plug into the factory harness.

Installing a stereo in our cars is a piece of cake, takes about 20 minutes at most to get it in there.

you aren't getting it... he doesn't have the "traditional" camaro center console. The Berlinetta had a funky "stalk" style radio that is vertically mounted where the normal radio would be.

You might be able to swap to the more common style camaro center console, i'm not sure if it would conflict with the berlinetta dash. What you can do that someone else mentioned is use an aftermarket stereo mount that covers all 3 sides. I believe it's the kit they sell for an 89ish Poniac Sunfire that came with an AM/FM only stereo. I remember installing one in an ex-girlfriends car and saw pictures on here of it used on a berlinetta. Basically, it's made to hang under the dash on the Sunfire but you would mount it flipped the other way on top of the camaro center console.

Yes it is an 84 Berlinetta with the digital dash and stalk mounted stereo. Maybe I'll just buy an underdash box from crutchfield and glass it to go in somehow.

Oh when he said stalk I was thinking that he meant someone put a dual **** radio in there. Didn't notice he said Berlinetta.
