Changing from 10" ported to 12" Sealed
Hey everyone. So, I have a 1987 Camaro, and in it I have two 10" subs (Audiobahn Flame Q's) in a ported boxed. Each of them are getting about 1.8 cubes or so, and they hit like crazy, and I like them. Unfortunately, the box is in an awkward place, so I've decided to get a custom fit box. The box I'm looking at is a sealed dual 12" with 1.8 cubes each side. My question is: will 12s in a sealed box be able to be as loud as my 10's in a ported box? And does anyone have any suggestions about good 12s? My amps put out 900W rms (I think, if I remember right) to each sub. I'd thought about making a port in this box, but it seems like it won't work + it won't be big enough. So anyways - any suggestions on a 12 in sub? And will my sealed box be able to hit like my ported box? Cuz my ported box made my eyes feel like they were going to fall out. Thank you!! I love this forum
Also, the box I'm looking at is:

Another question while I'm thinking about it: what specs are most important when looking for a sub? Should I be looking at RMS Watts, efficiency (or SPL or sensativity or whatever it's called), Xmax, magnet size...what's most important? Thanks again

I think my amp is a Boss PD-4000 or a PD-3000...I think (my car is not with my right now, so I can't check..). I know, Boss is probably not the best, but I got it for free, so whatever. It ran my Audiobahn Flame Q 10's -very- well, they were nice. I think the amp is at 800x2 or 900x2 at 2 ohms. Of course, since I have a Boss amp and Audiobahn subs, the actual rating is probably a lot less...maybe? Does anyone know? And for price, I'm not sure, I'd be okay spending a fair amount, but, as always, cheaper would be nice
Thank you!

Um...I don't really have a set price. Cheaper is a plus, but I could spend a bit if they were really worth it. I think my limit would probably be...500$ for two.

I'm not a sound quality pro but i do know i like loud FN music.I've tried a couple of setups with the sealed box.10 and 12's.i changed to 12's cuz the 10 idn't meet my expectations...little improvement.Seems to me that 12's compared to tens seem only a little louder when in the car but if you leave ur system on in the driveway and go inside a house.you ca hear the 12's plain as day..They carry way father than 10's and the sound goes through walls and stuff easily.Anyways i guess i'm saying 10's ported with quite high rms, ported work sweet for all around music.from metal to hip hop they're loud, lighter weight and more comfortable in most ranges of music.
Spend the extra dough for high quality subs.RMS is what to look for here.It sucks to hear distortion with quite a bit of amp left!!

hearing the subs outside means nothing , it means *** holes can hear it and might wanna take the snach and grab , i love the dumb asses that live near me with there 5000 buck systems getting stolen on a weekly basis (i got a police scanner going so i hear all calls) getting your audio stolen is nothing new around here , so i only keep mine on loud when i know i have a off street in a garage parking area (aka my home) not blast it on the corner and go to the fast food joint next door

I've looked into some tc subs, specifically the db-500 and the tc-1000. I'm looking for SPL, mostly, but I'd like it to not sound like a fart if possible..

hmm damnit.. AA (ascendant Audio) is in the process of building there new line soo there ot selling anything atm.. uhm.. check out Fi SSD... they will sound good and get hella loud... and they are somewhat cheap i beleive .. will be well less than $500... here ya go sir http://tinyurl.com/2joz36 .. $189 shipped for a 12" sub.. def. look into those and i bet you wont be dissapointed
----------
1.8 cubes sealed would be perfect for 2 12 SSD's they recommend up to 1.6 cubes i beleive but 1.8 will be very very nice.. if i were you i would go with those.. they will kill the audiobahns

So it turns out I only have 1.4 cubes for each sub...hm...but those Fi SSD's look amazing. Anyone have any thoughts on them? The other sub I'm thinking about is the TC Sounds db-500.

i havent heard much about the tc-sounds one.. but the tc sounds subs are very good quality.. im going to be running an soundsplinter rl-p .. which is basically a tc-2000 .. same build house for tc and SS.. if you want i'll give you an audio forum i go to.. they swear by Fi.. SSD's would be a great choice imo
