I have 2 questions.

1. On the 3rd gen camaro, was there more locations for the speakers then just in the dash and in the panel in the back, next to the hear of the guy in the back seat. Did they have speakers on the side in the trunk like the 4th gen?

2. I have 6x9 speakers in the back, and they sound like crap when they are mounted in the panel, but sound great out of the panel. They sound like they are rattling, kinda like a distorting sub. What can I do to fix that?

On question 1....nope speakers only found in two locations. Dash and rear sail panel. No trunk speakers.

Question 2...Are you sure the 6x9 is not blown? If not check the screws or check for lose metal. For a quick fix put sound deadening material between the cut out and the back of the speaker that attaches. Can use house roofing material if you want. Much cheaper than buying a piece of dynamat. This will act as a soft cushion for the metal.

The Bose option included a rear deck cargo cover with 6x9s mounted, along with an amp. It also included kickers with amps. You can find them now and again. Unfortunately my camaro only has the kickers left.

My IROC came with the Bose option but the rear speackers were more like 5" or 6" round speakers, ands the kick panel speakers. Each speaker has it's own amp also.

I stand corrected. I've seen the rear deck but never checked the type of speaker. I'm in the process of trying to rebuild my stock kickers, hopefully save the amps.

Yeah, I saw that trunk speaker in one of the junked cars. I was into weight saving than, so I didn't think much of it.

I'm making my own rear deck lid like that... one of the previous owners lost mine or something, I've got the bose option, but none of the bose speakers because they decided the walmart specials were superior and that the deck lid was in the way of their mad hot ghetto dual 12" woofer plate made of 1/2" ply, two by fours and an abused towel. I'd like to strangle them for removing those pieces.

This is my basic schematic, I don't know the depth of the cutouts on the side or around the rear latch, I measured a couple times, cut leaving a little extra, test fit then cut and filed til it fit. The speaker cutouts vary depending on the speaker, the 6.5" Pioneer speakers I'm using required a 5" hole. Im using 1/4" birch ply as the base and will be adding a hinge along the front with small trapezoidal boxes behind the speakers and a latch of some type in the back, front will be covered in replacement carpet and the back will be filled, sanded smooth, painted, sanded smooth, painted etc. til the wood grain dissapears.

You should ask yourself what you're hoping to accomplish with the 6.5's back there., what type of sound are you going for?

If you're going to put a 6.5 coaxials back there, it's going to totally mess up your soundstage, and make everything sound like it's behind you.

If you are going to put a 6.5 midbass driver, it's really not going to do much for you. Not even sure if you'll notice them to be honest.

If you're going to go through all the work of building a enclosure for the back well. I would put at least 10's back there, to give you some lowend sound. I think you would be much happier with that, compared to 6.5's.

They're just backfill on the same channel as the 6x9's, there will be a 10" woofer in the well as well (which is why I'm boxing them, to keep the pressure sepearate from the woofer). They will accomplish exactly the same thing that the original bose plate did. It's more for the looks than anything else and after sitting in the car with the primary speakers hooked up it sounds great to me.

Why not use MDF instead of ply? It will be less prone to vibration from the speakers. Plywood being made in layers, though well laminated, can still vibrate between its "plys", it's also easier to paint.

I had plywood on hand and it's a lot lighter than MDF and it's not a sub box, I've had good luck with plywood at that scale.
