MTX Re-Q with factory cd player - anyone used it?
MTX Re-Q with factory cd player - anyone used it?
Hey guys,
I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my audio system in my 89 Iroc.
Here's what I have at my disposal.
Infinity reference 6.5 component speakers
Infinity reference 3-way 6X9
Pioneer 600w 4 channel amp
Pioneer deh-4700mp cd/mp3 player
Now, all of this stuff together would probably sound decent if set up properly, but I dont like having an aftermarket cd player. I have a factory cd player that looks almost like it belongs in the car that I scored at a salvage yard. It looks just like this one, except that it is completely black, not gray ***** like this one.

I know that it will not sound as good as the pioneer deck, but will adding this to it help out? Does anyone have experience with this thing? It seems like a new product.

I'd love to use the factory cd player because I put a lot of work into finding a replacment laser assembly for it so that I could use it, and it just looks cooler in my opinion than a cd player with a mounting adapter and tiny buttons.
I also have a DEH-45DH din and a half cd player that I found and was able to repair as well. So that is an option too. Your guys' opinions would be greatly appreciated.

To keep that stock looking cd player, the MTX Re-Q would be an excellent choice. But its the $150 that gets me... you can buy a decent radio for that much. When i'm at work tonight I will see how much a Re-Q runs (I work for an MTX elite dealer.) If I can even find it in our system... I have never heard of the Re-Q before... But it works if you want to keep that stock radio... What is that radio actually out of? it looks nice... I need a replacement and dont want to go the extra yard with an aftermarket...
Re: MTX Re-Q with factory cd player - anyone used it?
The radio by part number 16152451 (I work at a GM dealership, and was able to find it) was out of a 95 (only 95) cavalier. After that, they switched to the newer style. I actually found it laying on the passenger seat of a firebird. I can send you pictures of it if you like. When I got it, it wouldn't play cds, but I found a cd unit out of one of the gray ones out of a 96 s-10 that worked in it. The only issue with it now is that when you adjust the volume, you get a little bit of cracking. I'm going to try some electronic contact cleaner on it. I like the looks of it, as it looks older. I'm going to put the old style ***** on it to complete the look.
Like 91-93 or 4 buicks had one that was similar, but had a an equalizer. They go for like 300 on ebay, as they are tough to find. (buick=old people cars, old people = late to adopt cd) The one like mine goes for around 250 (which is rediculous, really) but I guess some guys have older cars and want cd but also want to maintain the look of the factory unit. (green digital lettering and all)
If I decide to stick with a pioneer, and you want one, I'd be willing to trade this thing for some goodies I could use. I'm not going to try to stick you like people on ebay are, because their prices are kind of outragous for these old dinosaurs.
But back on topic, anyone use the Re-Q?

I would use the Re-Q. But its not at a resonable price... I'm going to see what i can get it directly from MTX for... (employee price) i'll let you know...
Re: MTX Re-Q with factory cd player - anyone used it?
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.
It seems a little overpriced for what it does, but its still a lot cheaper than a Rockford Fosgate 3SIXTY.1 ($299) or 3SIXTY.2($599)
.
I think I might just wire it both ways. That way if I'm not satisfied, I can just throw in my pioneer deck.

I'm just going to slap in the pioneer cd player. I would love to use this factory one because it would look really good in the car, but it just wont meet my needs without spending big cash. I may just try selling it.

IMProfessionalO I would use the aftermarket deck. By the time you spend the $ on a MTX-Q or a JLAudio interface, you couldve purchased a nice aftermarket deck and eliminated the OEM deck issues. BTW, the crackling it dust in the volume ****. Use compressed air first to blow out dust and then tuner wash or contact cleaner. Dont get the cleaner on the plastic cosmetic face. But the problem will arise again so I would go with a aftermarket deck. BTW, what type of car is it going in?

86 IrocU, I'd like to get around 150 out of it, since they are going for 275 for the exact same one on ebay. I put a new laser pickup assembly in it, and lubricated the loading mechinism, so its working like a champ. Send me your email, and I'll take some pictures to send you. I'll hook it up to a power supply so you can see the green display, and that the thing works.
Mikz, The cleaner is what chrysler uses on their radios when they have the crackling problem. I've used it, and its seemed to have gone away. However, I have a spare cd player (gray, doesnt play cds) that I'll give away with this thing for parts in case it ever comes back.
