Stereo turns on then off right away

Car: 1986 IROC Z
Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: 700R4
Stereo turns on then off right away
It wont stay on. Car was steroless for about 3 years. Just added a JVC but had to hardwire the wires because the last owner cut the stock harness. I know i got all the speaker connections correct, the ground and im sure i have the hot wire and ign correct because if i switch the 2 wires (orange and yellow), stereo wont turn on at all. Fuse seems to be good. Any suggestions?
