Antenna?
Antenna?
Well, finally got the bird rolling and riding good with the stereo cranking... But my old power antenna didn't make it, so I never reinstalled it. Any suggestions for a cheap alternative to hunting down a direct replacement? How are those whip antennas attached? Will they bolt right into my existing hole?
Saw a "amplified" antenna at Murrays Auto the other day for $15 I think. Was designed to mount on a non-grounded surface (eg: glass) and form a T like shape with the antenna cable (which would then get routed to the headunit). I'm very temped to go this route, but I just can't see any quick and easy way to somewhat cleanly run the cable. Plus it has a ground strap

Re: Antenna?
Listen FM....a lot? I don't. I listen to CDs. I put my stock antenna paying under the dash pad. A buddy of mine did his too, and has no complaints on the FM reception.

Re: Antenna?
under dash no problems here also,
take off your dash pad, feed the antenna wires down, remove the radio, and look for the wires, thats what i did, also there is a good metal bracket under that dash pad to ground it to, hook the power for it to the switched power on your radio, or the power antenna wire on your radio

Re: Antenna?
I like the idea of no antenna, but I don't like to make any modifications I can't easily revert back to stock sometime down the road. I try to keep the car as original looking as possible.

Re: Antenna?
If the antenna was mounted on the rear quarter, it wouldn't bother me.
But if I shave the front, I wouldn't take the time to take a drill to the back, and just move it. I'd stop there, at shaving the front, and just hide it.

Re: Antenna?
There are several different routes you can go to get some FM Reception. Many aftermarket solutions won't work quite as well as the factory FM Antenna.
At Best Buy, we sell a basic 13" Rubber Antenna that I've put behind the dash of several vehicles and it has worked decently well. You won't get quite the range but in town, you'll get your local stations no problem... and the antenna is only like $13.
We also have a 12v Powered Antenna that's maybe 6in long, it's like a blade, real skinny, and is made to mount along a window... like along the passenger A-Pillar. It will give you a little better range, but you will have to run a 12v ignition wire. It's also pretty cheap at like $18 or so.
You could even go all out and put in an aftermarket motorized antenna, but they run around $60 or so for everything.
