Would anyone be down for a Delco radio ipod input DIY?
Would anyone be down for a Delco radio ipod input DIY?
Just got my ipod input kit for my delco radio. Im thinking about taking off the heat shrinking and studying how its wired and maybe making some and selling them. Also have a few equalizer radios that I could convert.
Just wondering if anyone would be interested in a DIY edu. Looks pretty simple and I think I could pull it off if I can find the same small guage stranded wire and headphone inputs

How it's wired is not the problem, but where to solder the points in the head unit. Why don't you share this info instead, rather than everyone else just trying to make $30 from $5 of parts?
Re: Would anyone be down for a Delco radio ipod input DIY?
Thus why Im asking if anyone would be down for a do it yourself education thread. Id probably sell kits on evilbay. Or here for cheap if someone would rather not do it themselves
And those guys that sell those kits probably have less than $1 invested per kit. Ive been looking at wire and headphone jacks in bulk ans its hella cheap

I'd be interested in a write up, but i have an equalizer tape deck, but i also have a Delco CD player unit...any hope for the CD deck???
Re: Would anyone be down for a Delco radio ipod input DIY?
Another bonus of adding an ipod cable to a factory deck is noone will think to steal it unlike a new ipod ready alpine or pioneer HU

I'm speaking that i have a later Pontiac/Delco CD deck (99/00 Firebird). Also curious...on the tape decks...how do you engage the deck w/out putting a tape in?
Re: Would anyone be down for a Delco radio ipod input DIY?
Its wired straight into the amp inputs, so I assume it just overrides the radio signal. Ill have to wait and see when I wire one of mine up. Might go to the junkyard today to look for some parts. Might pick up a few non cassette decks to play around with.
Got a few equalizer decks from my trips there. Also might look for a newer style radio thats got a slave cd/cassette input in the back. I think there might be a way to input an ipod signal through that too
Is that the Monsoon deck? Ive been trying to find one cheap to play around with. I think they have a slave input

Re: Would anyone be down for a Delco radio ipod input DIY?
yea cause i was thinking of using a kit that uses the slave input that i have on my newer CD player, but i liked the idea of having everything all together, and if i had a headphone jack in the face (if i can figure out a good place for it), then it would just be simpler and cleaner.
I'd also like to keep that plug free because i'm hoping to find a CD changer in the junk yards soon.

Ooh, I would love to see a how-to thread on this. I have a crappy CD player right now and I'm looking to switch to an OEM CD player with equalizer. The only problem is there's no place to plug in my Zune.
Re: Would anyone be down for a Delco radio ipod input DIY?
Well you will have a place with a headphone input!
Im thinking of getting a home audio dock with remote on ebay. Its powered by usb and has a headphone output on it. Its black so itll match the console well. I can get a 12v to usb converter to power the dock and then run a double male end cord to the ipod kit and into the radio. The dock could be mounted on a junk spare ash tray insert and then you can remove the dock whenever you want. Plus you got the remote so you dont have to fudge around with the thumbwheel when driving.

yea thats another thing i wanna tinker with is getting 99 radio controls somewhere into my steering wheel, lol. Of which would make if you used the slave input you would be able to switch to via the steering wheel conrtols.

We have a lengthy thread over on the GP site...

You can also easily mod your tape deck unit and add an input.

I'd be interested in learning how to put an 1/8" jack on the front panel of my '89 factory Delco AM/FM/Cassette w/ equalizer unit.
