Clock Stays On All The Time

my factory radios clock stays on all the time, even with the ing off, the radio will not work with the ing off, just like it should, but the clock stays on, the owners manual says to push the Volume/Recall ****, but that does nothing, is this a common problem? is there a fix, i know a guy that can work on radios if i knew the problem

Re: Clock Stays On All The Time

Sorry to see your not getting any help, guess nobody knows the problem (myself included). I would think that something is wrong with your radio though, talk to that guy you know and see if he knows what the problem is.

Re: Clock Stays On All The Time

Did you hook up your stereo or is it stock? I know that when I pulled the aftermarket C.D. player out of my 84 and went back to a stock AM/FM cassette deck there were two hot leads, one for the radio power and the other for the clock. If you have wires that are spliced in there is probably a problem. I remember that there was a black wire that hooked in below the speaker wires that fed power, and then there were two wires on the other side for power, one being an orange wire and the other brown with an orange stripe.

Re: Clock Stays On All The Time

OK, I looked it up on a search. The black is chassis ground. The orange is "ignition continuous" Brown with Orange is " Ignition on." You may have something spliced in to "continuous".

Re: Clock Stays On All The Time

no, i checked, all wires are exact, infact the factory harness is still there also, this one stumps me, the guy i know that can work on it is a CB radio man, but if i tell him whats wrong and or give him the parts he can fix the problem............its wierd, because i can switch between the staion # and the time when the ing is on (that proves the button works) but when the ing is off it will not respond and turn the clock display off as it says it should in the owners manual, also the radio does not work with the ing off, just like its made to do.... to be honnest im LOST, any other ideas would be nice, thanks for what i got so far

Re: Clock Stays On All The Time

It's probably the switch inside for the clock recall is stuck in the closed ( clock on ) position, or the circuit is just fried. Those old Delco radios are absolute garbage anyway. I had one that would scroll alien text non stop lol. My buddies was like the lottery. It would shuffle the numbers and then stop on some random combination for awhile. If you really want a factory one, buy another one on eBay, they are cheap.

Re: Clock Stays On All The Time

i had that problem with the factory radio in my fiero
-cause was a shorted diode in the radio, replaced
with a diode from a parts radio-all fixed.
Easy repair if you are used to working on electronics.

Re: Clock Stays On All The Time

it was a diode on the left rear of the p.c. board above
the cassette transport, near where the orange wire
connects to the p.c board-just test all the diodes in
that area with the"diode test" on a multimeter.
BTW the head unit of my "old skool" system is a
slightly modified '84 delco- works great, sounds great
looks stone-stock(with about 400 old skool watts
behind it)
