6.5 speakers in dash
6.5 speakers in dash
just installed some sony xplod 6.5s in my front dash... all i had to do was cut some plastic off that surrounded the 4x6s. just the plastic that pointed upwards from the speaker mount, but i got'em to fit
. they were extras that i had when my prelude was wrecked so i though hey... why not try. well sounds awesome now and i like.... no need for kick panels

Re: 6.5 speakers in dash
Man I can't handle dash speakers anymore, they MURDER my left ear and my right ear just doesn't feel right after a long listening session. Ever since I started driving my Prelude again with proper door speakers I couldn't handle a dash setup. It is pretty cool you got speakers that large up there, did you actually mount them up or just fit them in?
Re: 6.5 speakers in dash
well after i cut off the plastic that was pointing upwards from mount... i could mount 2 screws on each speaker.... but i made sure they were tight and no rattling. so with just 2 screws on each speaker it was straight mount
----------
ill try to post pics of it in the next few days to show ya what i did and what it looks like

Re: 6.5 speakers in dash
These JBL's are a straight swap for the standard dash speakers and fit the cradle no problem. Just fitted a pair today, they sound great.

Re: 6.5 speakers in dash
Throw some pics up. I would have thought that 6.5's wouldn't fit in the dash.
Personally I'd have gone with door speakers and leave the dask alone.

Re: 6.5 speakers in dash
I hear the later year cars (mine is a 91) have even less space on the dash for deep speakers... I hear you can also take a heat gun and soften the air ducts below to get more room...
I'm going with a 3 way system, 6.5 in the door, 4 and tweet in the dash... 6.5 in rear with tweet... I have the last of the MB Quarts made in Germany... now they are made in China

True dat-According to the Crutchfield website, the JBL GTO6427 will NOT fit in a '92 Camaro.I'm not trying to be a wise guy or anything, but I would hate to see someone make a $100 mistake

Wonder if my Rockford Fosgate fps2614 6.5 component speakers would fit in my 1987 firebird dash?

Re: 6.5 speakers in dash
these are what i'm going with in my 91 dash. ON test fit passenger side drops straight in, drivers side not so much. have to make space for magnet as its much wider, depth not sure as it don't fit as is
.... but may need to make some adjustment.
