Anyone mounted amp in the driver side quarter?

I'm trying to decide where to mount my amp, either in the driver or passenger side quarter panel. I'm thinking if I remove the cardboard box thing, I can mount a flat piece of wood behind there, and mount the amp to it. That way I can keep the spare tire. Has anyone else done this? Pics?

my 89 has a compartment on the left side of the trunk were their might be space for a decent size amp. It is also a great spot because they have vents for cooling. I have never really checked how big or how deep it is might wanna get a tape measure and see if you can put the amp there. Might need to drill a few holes for wires and such but I think it could work and be nice and clean.

I couldn't because I have dual amps and wanted to be cool and show them off. Also my JL 1000/1 is huge and doubt it would fit their. But my other would probably work their nicely if I didn't have my other amp

Yeah, I'm going for the opposite effect, I'm wanting to hide everything except the subs. I think the amp will fit there, but I haven't measured yet to be sure. It's definitely a little harder to get to than the spare tire side, since there isn't a separate panel which comes off. Still, I think I can mount the amp with the switches and ***** facing up, so that I can open the little door and make adjustments as needed.

I mounted a rockford 800x2 amp and a small two channel speaker amp where the spare tire goes and the bigger amp is about 11" by 17" and the other one is about 12" by 12" and i also have a capacitor mounted there i dont have any pictures but it does work.

Yeah, I did that on my wife's 92 Z. I'll have to see if I can snap some pics for you. I don't remember the model #, I think its a smaller RF powering a 10" RF DVC sub that sits in the bottom of the trunk. With the black carpet and the t-top bags, you can't see anything unless your are REALLY looking. (If I don't respond in the next day or two, shoot me an email/PM).

Previously I had an amp mounted on the little shelf on the right side of the well, and had it covered with an aluminum box covered in carpet, but someone found it and ripped it out.

EDIT: Keep in mind this will only deter "lookers", anyone who knows you have a stereo will know you have an amp somewhere, and we all know it takes very little effort to open that compartment. I think I attached mine w/ hex or torx screws to help slow them down.

I removed the cardboard stuff and made room to mount a second battery to power my system. I had to remove the plastic panel to make room to mount the battery, then reinstall the plastic panel around the battery.

This is a RF 421D, I'm sure you can find the dimensions online. I used a scrap piece of thin gauge steel, but it wasn't quite big enough so you can see where I needed to add an aluminum extension to reach the right side. Since there isn't alot of airflow in this cubby, I spaced the amp off the plate with ~1/2 rubber or plastic spacers. Any Q's, just shoot me a PM.

Just a suggestion/idea here.... Im thinking you could make a removeable panel on that side. You could VERY carefully cut down the panel in the same general spot as the passenger side. Im betting you could drill a hole, and get one of those threaded inserts to fit in the same spots as the "push pins" that hold that plastic on. And use factory rear compartment plastic screws to hold it in. Or just use the push pins.

To kee the seam lined up, you could get some thin alum or steel, and make a flange on the piece of plastic that stays in the car. should keep things nice and level, and if you make your cut nice, no one will really notice it.

Just an idea...Might require alittle tweaking, but should be easily doable.
