hi everyone. i have been planning a sound system for my car for a while now. im going to run 2 alpine type r 12" with a 1000 watt hifonics amp. i will also be running the type r component speakers. my question is will this box work good? http://cgi.ebay.com/CAMARO-FIREBIRD-...d=p3286.c0.m14 the reason im attracted to this box is because it is ported and i wouldnt know how to build my own ported box. any input would be great.

 

I've never been a fad of prefab boxes, and boxes need to be made for the speaker. Do the speakers you want require a sealed or ported box? How much air space per speaker?

Ports also need to be a certain size, etc depending on the speaker.

Plus the one you linked to is for 8's not 12's.

 

there was a pretty good set of plans floating around the boards before do a search and you can probably find it boxes are not very hard to build with the plans right in front of you

 

I bought a similar box off ebay but it was around $75. Sounded amazing with 2 10" infinitys.

 

That box is sweet if you ask me. You should consider a set of Fi or Soundsplinter 8inchers instead of those 12's.

 

The boxes on ebay are actually built very well. I had one for my first box and loved it. The only thing I didn't like is the way it sits, I wish they sold ones that sit inside the well and instead of sticking out like that. It also makes your license plate and stuff behind it rattle much much more then inside the well type box.

I doubt there would be enough room to add ports.. two 12s on my ebay box takes up basicly the whole thing.. (your link has 8" holes)
It will probably pound with two type R 12" even in a sealed box.

 

yeah i didnt realise that the box was for 8" subs. dumb me. lol anyways, im not sure if i should go with the 2 type r's or 1 type x. either way it will still be powered by 1000 watts rms.

 

I vote for a single 12in Type X with a proper vented box, you'll love it. If you do decide to go with a pair of 8's you should check out these:

A pair of those on 1000 watts in vented enclosures should outdo a 12in Type X all around plus you get the bragging rights of having 8's that get stupid loud.
