A $100 System?!
I got a friend that wants to sell me his Amp, Box, and subs for a $100. Ive only seen them once and the box fits perfect in the hatch and the 2 subs sounded good. I do not know what brand any of it is, but was wondering even if they are a cheap brand would it all be worth it? I'll try and get brands later today.

Re: A $100 System?!
that is a good deal because boxes to fit our hatch alone cost 60 for a cheap one, most run in the 140 range... of what ive seen...

Re: A $100 System?!
I'd do it in a second. When i bought my last system (pyramid 2600 watt amp, some mid level brand subs and a box from a local audio store) it cost over 200 at least so as long as they all work nicely I'd say buy it. Fosgate is a great brand I love em the subs alone sell for about 100 each

Re: A $100 System?!
Hey man just build yourself your own box, I have found by building your own they are much more durable then the prefab ones you buy online or at car shops. I just finished building mine a few weeks ago and all you need is a sheet of 3/4 MDF, screws, glue and some carpet or felt. Plus it will look better!
Re: A $100 System?!
I had one Rockford Fosgate Punch Series 12", and I ran it off of a 800w Pioneer amplifier, bridged, even though it was a single voice coil, this 12" in a shallow box it harder than the two Crossfire CF3's I have now (2x 10" / 400wmax). I would gladly buy another, but they cost around $200-$600.
I would grab that deal in a heartbeat.
As someone said, Rockford is a leading brand in car audio, they have some amazing technology, especially in their amplifier construction. Read up on it a bit.

Re: A $100 System?!
Rockford Fosgate makes hellar subs.. their amps are even better (especially if they are old school) I have to 10" p2's in mine right now and love em.. even if they are p1 or old school subs they will impress you especially for a $100.. But for your knowledge Rockfords line of subs are now the P1, P2, P3, T1, and t2's... the t2's are of course the best but also cost upwards of $600-$700.. Pick those up off his hands, have a hell of deal and enjoy what you bought.

Re: A $100 System?!
Well i bought them!!! the subs are 12" punch series (they say punch in the middle). I might have to mod the box to fit my t-top bag though. What kind of headunit should i use? i havent checked into the amp though. its got black fins on top and is about 10" by 12"
Re: A $100 System?!
Just toss me the name and model of it, what it says on it, picture?
I'm not against any kind of head-unit, I find that the around $100 head units work fine, ofc, i prefer they make at least 50w per channel, it makes overall sound alot cleaner.
Pioneer, Kenwood, and Alpine tend to be my choices on them.
Rockford Punch series is good in a shallow or deep box, a well box would work real well with them, even a half-well box. For two 12" I wouldn't port the box.

Re: A $100 System?!
For $100 it is a devent system man, thats a steal for all the equipment that you got. Now all you need to do is get yourself a wiring kit (amplifier installation kit). You can buy these just about anywhere but I would recomend buying one from a car audio dealer or online from a websites www.sonicelectronix.com or www.crutchfield.com After you get one of these the install is overall easy and many of us could walk you through the setup I have installed all my systems myself. Also what kind of headunit do you have hooked up, you would need a aftermarket one to run the system. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Re: A $100 System?!
The main power wire should be a 4 or 8gauge depending on wattage of amplifier, generally over 800watts would require a 4gauge main +12v wire. This wire is to run from the battery, 1 foot away from the battery is going to be a fuse, either 60 or 80amp, doubt the amplifier draws more than that. From the fuse (1 ft from the battery) run the power wire to where the amp will be mounted. Also for this you will likely want to run a capacitor, in this case:
The capacitor will allow the amp to draw extra power faster than a battery to discharge for quicker hitting music, or real hard hits, this can also reduce the chance of headlight dimming when it hits.
|B|---|F|-----------------------------|C|-|A|
This wire hooks into the +12v on the amplifier as I said above, NOT the remote.
The ground wire is usually supposed to be one size bigger than the positive wire, this is because the amplifier uses capacitors which will discharge more voltage than is coming in.
The remote on your stereo should be blue or blue/white, and marked on it should say AMP REMOTE. This wire you need to extend to the back and plug it into the REMOTE on the amplifier.
If your stereo does not have a remote, find a +12v source, ignition or constant, and put an I/O switch on it, and run it to the back.
If your stereo has RCA outputs for amplifier or rear channel, these will be used for your subs, and will go into your amplifier, you'll want to use a heavily shielded RCA cable (don't be afraid to spend $50+ on it).
If your stereo does not have RCA outputs, look on the amplifier for a 4-pin harness, should have a white/white stripe and a grey/grey stripe wire if it has it, I'm not sure if Rockford offers speaker-level inputs. The wires for them are the rear-speaker wires from your head-unit. Wire them together.
For the subs, use a 12 or 8-gauge wire as the main wire to each terminal on them. If its a dual voice coil, follow instructions below.

On the right side of this picture, run one wire,
from the top negative to the bottom positive
on the same side. Wire your amplifier terminal
to the left side of the speaker, and use those
positive and negatives only. This lowers the
OHM rating on the speakers from 8 to 4, or
4 to 2, the lower the ohm, the less the power
required to drive them.
As always, the fuse should be as close to the battery as possible, because if there is a short from there to the battery, it'll pop, if its all the way at the back of the car, it'll start a fire instead.

Re: A $100 System?!
Another vote for Rockfod Fosgate! I put a single 12" p1 punch in a small sealed box in the well of the trunk, powered by a 600 watt Alpine amp, and it sounded awesome! It had crisp, clean, hard hitting bass. I am VERY happy with my Rockford sub. I don't think you'll be dissapointed!

Re: A $100 System?!
Thanks for the info guys! Well i hate to say it but im THINKING about selling the box subs and amp. I have other things id like to buy for my IROC and this could help fund them. Remember im only thinking about selling it, not for sure yet. What could i ask for it all? i was thinking $150 together or $50 for the box, $100 for the subs, and $50 for the amp. You guys are the experts on sound so let me know.
I did print Civerus' post for reference if i keep them lol.
