sub box behind back seats, on humps
has any one set up a sub display behind the rear seats on the hump. i dont wanna put somehitng in the trunk hole, becuase i still have to put stuff there like my skateboard and tools. hahahh. havent really look to see if any of you guys did it. but my sub is now located in my back seat and with the seat down. all the sounds is being restricted by the cushion of the seat. if anyone has a dimensions that they would like to share. maybe a 2 sub setup or just one. ill post a pic.

well i had a freind that had a professional setup several years ago in his camaro.he had them jerk out the back seat and they built a tub looking box for him.it had 4-15" orions in it.they put them on top of each other and it looked really wild and would blast too.

Here's a crazy idea.......but your subwoofer in the well and put your tools in a bag and skateboard in your back seat.
Seriously, it's got to be a better solution that setting a sub box on the rear seat. That's what I would do

Re: sub box behind back seats, on humps
it will not fit in the well. i gotta measure it. but it is now sitting on my hump, just barely. i bought the head unit, amp, and sub for 120 bucks.
i want to mach up 2 subs on a peice of plywood or something. the subs will be sitting in the well on the peaice of wood. mainly like a hood setup. with the hydrolic hood struts, and have a latch so it will hold. flip up the latch and it will raise up liek a hood. ahev enough wire so it will not stretch. (crazy i know)what im tryign to say is that i can still have the cargo pit, and have a cool looking sub setup.
so thats my fantasy for when i get money together.

HAHAHHAH fantasy? NO
I bought a 300 dollar 85 camaro as a beater a few weeks ago.
Car came with an AMAZING sound system (equipment is from like 93 but still pounds!) The 2 12's are in a wooden plate with like l brackets on the bottem side makeing it very similar to what you were describing except no struts. It has a handle on one side you just pull it up and have access to w.e is in your well(my case a 10 disc cd changer and 2 amps)
Ill get you picks tomorrow man.

see i knew it would catch on. it would just be cool to have it hold up, and not strain your self. even though it proboly weight close to 20lbs estiamted.
it would pretty cool for a car show too.

Re: sub box behind back seats, on humps
Idk about your car but i have a rear glove box?
lol...
and i can still get in it and my subs pound my brain...lol...they barely fit in the $20 camaro box...but its in the well and my amp was under it until it kept blowing fuses lol....(under powered by alt)
But...Idk...That whole wood panel idea sounds like an extreme air leak thats gonna be hard to control since theres so much plastic in the back...
Just my opinion....
Plus...
That sub box right behind your head isnt gonna be any louder than your subs in the rear..granded itsa bandpass...but your gonna hear the sub moving in and outta the magnet eventually..and it willg et annoying...and it'll soudn better pounding off your hatch glass than right beside your arm...lol...just an idea

Re: sub box behind back seats, on humps
He lives in Virgina..I live in Illinois
He moved to his Navy Base...
Ill ask him for pics..dunno how long it will be before he gets online..
But ill get them As soon as possible...its an awesome set up though...id do it if i had a great amp
My Ex-Girlfriend and I made an amp rack under her seat of her Tiburon
Took the old backseat bottem out and made a new one using the old Fabric and mounted 2 JL Audio amps into the new frame..
Made it where you just lifted up the backseat bottem and you could see the amps...looked really good...

Re: sub box behind back seats, on humps
I have a single 12" sub mounted behind my back seat. I had a nice bandpass box for it but had to go with a smaller sealed box to get it to fit at all without removing the rear seats or getting a custom built box. I don't have a picture so I drew a sketch in paint real quick. I have an Alpine Type-R sub (500w rms/ 1500w max) and an Alpine amp (400w rms) and it absolutely smashes on any of my friends' multiple sub set ups. Everyone claims my sub hits harder due to its placement and the fact that it faces forward, although I think it may be the quality of the sub as well. I do believe this style set up works well with the acoustics of the car , especially because it's a hatchback.

Re: sub box behind back seats, on humps
Probally the best design yet for a rear well sub box that still allows use of the well for starage and doesnt mess with the rear plastic SOUNDS KICK *** TOO I MEAN LOUD!! 200 what alphasonik amp from 1993 hooked up to those two 12's and my car is a sound machine

Re: sub box behind back seats, on humps
what if i some how cut where the white line is( see picture ). that should make enough room for it to sit on the hump with out hitting the hatch. also i did move the sub to the hump, but still it sits slighly off of it. i still haev to have my seat down.
thanks for the suggetions.

Re: sub box behind back seats, on humps

A single plate with two mounted subs with the well in the back gives horrible sound reproduction. A dedicated box gives more accurate sound, and there's no rattle. Also, your 200 "whats" don't make your car a sound machine.
And to to OP: I assume you've taken the hatch cover out, right?

Re: sub box behind back seats, on humps
Its funny how your laughing about it. I thought the same thing when I first looked at the setup but hearing it and talking about it are two totally different things. No its not two 15" solobarics in a sealed box with each sub being pushed by a 1000 watt amp but for what it is, it is a sound machine. WATTS WATTS WATTS WATTS WATTS<---people make typos all the time thanks for correcting me on that one THUMBS UP TO YOU DUDE.
& btw A 200 watt amp from the early 90s can and does push a sub just as hard as a 600+ watt amp these days old school guys know that.
I had two pioneer 10's being pushed by a 2 channel mtx amp. 180 watts max or something, i bridged it and ran btoh subs off that one bridged channel. I could make your ears hurt from the clean bass that system produced in a sealed box in the back of my other camaro.

Re: sub box behind back seats, on humps
Put it in the trunk, you will not notice a difference in bass.
And SOME old school amps would put out more than advertised and it is still the same. My newer style amps put out more than advertised and I found out the hard way by blowing a set of 1200w subs at 1/2 gain, so some new makers under rate the wattage and let alone my amps are pyramid and they have lasted years of abuse (suck on that brand ******).
