what kind of box are you putting in trunk or back seat..i built a box for 6 12's in mine but i have no back seat strictly 2 person car..if you have a t-top gotta be careful will blow out the seals i learned the hard way..deep bass 2 12's high bass 2 10's..i just saw your box your building bad idea to have woofers hitting back toward glass ..need to aim to front..air pressure =broken glass which is expensive for a back glass

unless your running over 2000 watts you and only running 2 12s or 2 10s you should be fine.. The glass is tempered.. so atleast it wont shatter. Aiming your subs at the hatch will add dbs and bass. I have 2 10s right now and it sounds really nice. My buddy has 2 12s and i keep up with him because mine are better.. Just depends on what kind of subs you want to run..

If you want tight punchy bass.. 2 10s in a sealed box.. 12s are good too but 10s work great
If you want to hit the lows really really well.. make a ported box.. tune it to around 32-40hz for a daily driver and you'll be swimming in bass.

Actually I have done a box facing the back glass in a camaro for a ex-brother in law in the past....didn't hurt anything.

One of the good thing about the third generation hatch design is the "boost" you can get from your subwoofers by firing them towards the rear hatch. Not taking advantage of the free bass transfer function is a waste.

By facing the subwoofers forward you will not get the extra bass boost. As a matter of fact, every car I had a subwoofer in, I tried to fire the speakers towards the rear.

It's like taking a home subwoofer and facing it out...it may have thump, but try facing it into a corner of the living room....the bass will get noticeably deeper.

measure the air space you'll have for each woofer.
If it's just around 1.5 cubic feet per woofer then go with 10's.
If it's around 2.0 cubic feet or more, then go with the 12's.

hey thanks guys, that helps a lot, i just want a nice thump, not really loud or anything! sound like i should go with two 10s,the center section going down between the seats is just for look, but if i had to port the box i was thinking about running the ports down through it. What would you guys recommended for subs and amp?

Re: 10" or 12" for this sub box

10's will provide clarity for all types of music. if you listen to strictly hip hop/rap, i'd go with 12's. aiming towards the back glass will increase Db's, but can also get muddy. if you vent/port your box, you get a very clear sound, with a full spectrum 'fluff' in the sub lows.

having a hatchback first of all adds 5-6db, so you wont be hurting if you have good power regardless. my only suggestion is, if you want a very clear sound, get a 4 channel amp for your mids and highs. it will round out your complete sound.

box looks great!

my personal rec's for subs are: MTX, kicker, alpine....and amps. xtant, kicker, mtx, alpine

they all have their differences in sound.

Definitely 2-12's ..... my recommendation is the Pioneer Premier subs... DVC... and a good 1600 watt amp. I bought the Powerbass amps and these hammer hard.... Alpine CD player..... they hit so hard that the professional made box has started to split at the seams!!!! But like others have said it really depends on what you listen to.......
