Re: 2 MTX 12's
I would say you are overloading your amp. Please provide the model number of the subs and amp. Also do you have the subs wired in parallel or series?
I would bet you have the subs wired for less ohms than the amp is stable at. So when you try to crank it up, the amp shuts itself down.

That may or may not fix the problem. I'd look into it more before you dump a bunch more money. It would also help so you don't run into the same problem with your new stuff.

Re: 2 MTX 12's
their is a few things i would check for this problem\
First off ? do the subs just not play as loud when turned up or do they totaly quit playing?
if they totaly quit playing i would check how hot your amp is when they cut out (if the amp is to hot to touch) = BAD if warm and you can keep your hand on it thats a better sing
it could be ur cd player clipping as well so dont be 100% sure its the amp yet...
do u understand series vs parell? if so check out how the subs are wired in and look at the bottom of the amp it should say how low of Ohms the amp is stable to
if your ohms are to low for the amp it could be going into safty mode which would be your subs not playing at all untill the volume has gone down enough to be safely played again
To small of amp isnt a bad thing by any means unless your driving the amp into clipping. Basicly instead of a nice smothe in and out the sub makes a cliped signal (square shaped signal) this to the sub is like hitting a wall!

Re: 2 MTX 12's
My Firebird had this problem the amp was not powerful enough for my 12's So bought me a 1000watt and gave my wife the 500w and now it does this in her car pushing her 450w 12. Hers cuts out at about 25/32. More powerful amp should work have any friends with stronger amps?
