What is the highest year GM radio made that will work(wire in) a 1992 camaro..wanna stock with the standard 14/21 pin connector.

Most newer GM radios will work with the 92 harness; I'm personally going to use the stock CD player out of my 97 Grand Prix (of which uses the same radios up until 2003) once I swap to the newer harness style (89+) in my 87 TA. You may have to get a little creative with the mounting brackets, but that shouldn't be too hard. How new were you looking to go?

well the idiots cut the harness out of the car all together..and its impossible to find a 92 radio..so going higher in years will give me more options to look.It doesn't have the bose system(just 14 wires) but it would be cheaper to get a harness on ebay and use the right din size...one guy had 1 but he said the mounts were different(they were on the side),,but it looked like it would work...gave no pics of the back tho.

I ran into the same problem on my last car; someone thought they were and electronics pro and chopped everything up (among other things). As long as its a 89+, you should be able to grab any GM harness without issue. I know there were a couple of us who posted up the wiring schematic in the last couple weeks, you may be able to dig that up to help with the rewire.

As much as I respect advance (I worked there for 3+ years), the stereo stuff there leaves a lot to be desired. I would recommend either grabbing a used stock deck or check out something used on eBay if you're looking to keep costs low. Another thing to keep in mind; if you're using an aftermarket deck, you will need a conversion harness and and installation kit.

that what i was thinkin,,hate to buy something without seeing it,they want $20 dollars for the cars harness($10 on ebay..paid for), but if i go aftermarket then i got to get the install kit(i have an aftermarket harness from my brother that plugs to the cars harness after the radio(aftermarket) is pre-wired. Were the stock radios pretty loud or so so like my 91 eclipse?

Stock decks are always pretty low power. Also doesn't help we've got 4x6" speakers up front from the factory, one of the smallest sizes you can possibly get. Your budget will determine how loud you can get...

What about if you have a bose equipped car with the kick panel speakers and hatch speaker shelf? Can I put an 02 Camaro stock deck in it with little to no problems? Oh, and where can I get new wire connectors as the previous owner chopped out some of the old ones when he put in the sony head unit.

Bose always makes for a headache . Now are you talking a basic deck out of the newer Camaro, or a monsoon unit (might give yourself more headaches if so). If the vehicle came with a "premium" setup and you wanted to change to something different, I'd really recommend running new wires to the stock locations. With the stock Bose setup, you have to deal with amplifiers, odd ohm ratings, funny amounts of wires, etc. Grab a standard radio harness out of a junker, run new wires to the speakers, grab the power/ground/illumination/etc from the old harness, and be done.

hope that wasn't too confusing. wiring can be a challenge with some of these things.

got that right..i looked at the diagrams for bose..way too much of a headache..i've installed a few radios over the years for other people and sometimes had to run new wires since sometimes they would change colors by the time you got to the speaker(MITSU WAS BAD ABOUT THAT).The best way to go is run new wires for new decks sometimes just to start fresh,which is what i will do if the stock setup is jacked.

Thank you for the info. I was thinking about installing a stock 93-02 camaro deck to replace the gold series bose system. From what I have seen so far, the stock wires aren't too hacked up only the connectors at the end are missing. I appreciate the heads up when dealing with the bose stuff. I posted a couple other threads asking about this situation and I recieved no reply's???

no big..my dad was a gm certified mechanic..and he always said the more you have on a car the more that can go wrong with it..i apply that to every car i get...even when it comes to radios.
