Hi Guys,
First off let me say I'm not looking for some crazy awesome bass. But more that the factory stuff. What I want to do is make a sub box in the trunk well that is flush with the rest of the floor. So that it's not obvious I have subs, (i'm really looking to hide everything). Could I get away with this with say, an or 8" or maybe 10" sub (a pair)? Was looking at the kicker refurb subs, but not sure if there is enough airspace. And also for two subs will a two channel amp be enough.

There are alot of technicalities to that so there is no straight up answer....


As for the box. No. No one sells one that you are looking for aftermarket. There are aftermarket ones that you can buy(not the style you want) but arnt worth the money at all. Do a search and im sure you will get about 4000 hits on it. There have been plenty of sub box plans, pictures, and talks on here. Just about every week someone asks about "will this work". So just take a look back a few pages or just do a search it will show you alot.

My .02 cents is to build yourself a box to your liking out of 3/4 mdf board. Thats what I did. Here is a picture of my set up. Not what your looking to do, but a good example of what you can do...

 

As far as cone space goes...two 8" are the same as 1.25 10" sub. Two 10" is the same as having 3.2 8" subs. I'd go with the 10"s. You can always turn down the gains on the amp.

As for the amp...it depends. Most people go with a single channel (mono) amp. If the woofers are 4 ohm then make sure the amp is 2 ohm stable (for the load).

Two 10" should have enough space in the hatch area.

You could go with a single 10" (DVC - dual voice coil) sub and mount it in the bottom of the trunk (flush with the ledges). It would look like you don't have a sub and still give you a bit of a trunk area.

Yup they'll work. The amp can be used in 2 channel (112.5w each) or bridged to gvie 550w total to the two. Go for bridged.

Make sure you get a copy of the warrenty for the subs as they are re-furbed.

One little update on my setup - the Super77 adhesive didn't hold the fabric to the grill covers, so I ordered an extra pair of grill covers and mashed the fabric between the two so that the fabric didn't flop with each hit of the bass. But I'm very happy with it - it was cheap, easy (took me about 2 hours to make), and thumps plenty for me!

 

i had a set of the same kickers i did not like them that much.to me alpine sounds better

 

Thanks for the tip. I've been considering just getting one 12" better quality sub instead of two 10's. Or maybe a 12" and an 8" to get a little different sound range.

if you can get a deal on an Alpine Type X you will like it way better than the kickers, they can handle alot and will last forever (well maybe not forever but longer than the kickers will). also should try your luck with a fiberglass box.

the kickers will do fine. have used kickers for years and love them. have used alpine in the past. still like my kickers. have used the crunch amps as well. and still using them today. also i like the autotek amps more than i do any other one.

 

You can't do a 12 and an 8, by doing so you'll get alot of sound cancellation. Always run the same size woofer, never mix and match.

My Polk 10" only required a o.5 cu/ft box sealed so I stuffed it down in the well and made a crappy cover to hide it. The pad on top of the box was to just add to the height of the box since it didn' sit flush with the side ledges. It certainly won't shake the car apart or **** off someone 3 blocks away but, it does enhance the music... like adding a sub to your home stereo. It's not there to kill your ears or impress anyone... just enhance the music you're already enjoying in your personal space.
