wiring help. extremely confused

before you say search i would but the seach thing wont work and im kinda in rush because its getting dark. i havent had a radio in my car for idk how long now and its driving me crazy. i even went out and bought a new radio today.
apparently the friend who had instead of buying the harness adapter he cut the factory wires so now i just have a bunch of wires where the cd player should be. the speaker wires are pretty much self explanatory. i hooked the yellow wire which i beleive is switched 12v to the yellow wire on the cd player harness then i hooked the orange wire which i beleive is constant 12v to the red wire on the cd player harness and i hooked the black wire which obv should be ground to the black wire on the cd player. now with just those wires plugged in minus the speaker wires when i turn the key the cd player makes a noise like its checking if a cd player is in then does nothing. it never once lights up and theres never once any music. i checked the radio fuse under the dash and it was fine and i put a new one in just to be sure. im completly stumped right now and i have no idea what to do?!!?!? its been all weekend and nothing. if someone could help me that would be amazing.

Re: wiring help. extremely confused

see thats what i tried. i ignored the speakers. now the brown gray and pink? those hook to nothing? because my cd player doesnt have wires for that. most cd players i see dont. but idk im thinking maybe theres a ground problem with the ground wire but i cant find my check light to test it >_< its quite aggravating

Re: wiring help. extremely confused

ok so i just realized where my check light was and i ran out there real fast. heres how it went.

White light -is when tester touches nothing.
red light - is power
blue - is ground

when i touched the yellow wire with the key in the on position the yellow wire gave a red light. when i touched the ground wire it turned blue. but when i touched the orange wire the light stayed white. it seems the constant is not working.

and way to bypass this or figure out where the problem is?

So you don't get 12V on either side of the fuse? Have you tried replacing the fuse, just to make sure it's not one of those fuses that look good, but are actually bad.

If push comes to shove, and you just can't get 12v at the fuse.

You could run your own 12V constant line from the battery to the deck (be sure to fuse it at the battery). But I would try and figure out why it's not getting 12v at the fuse. Does your cig lighter work, i might be wrong, but I thought that was connected to that fuse too.

Re: wiring help. extremely confused

Yeah it sounds like theres nothing going to the fuse. I would check that by hooking the cd player's 12V constant and switched to something you know has power (sounds like your yellow/ignition switched wire would do that). If it works then its time to check the fuse box for loose wires.

the fuse is brand new i bought it today and i have one of those little fuse testers and its good. like when the fuses are in the fuse box i prode them with the tester. all the fuses ether give me a ground light or a power light except the radio one i dont seem to get anything from it. even if i switch a 10 amp from somewhere else on the fuse box that works. and yes the cigarette lighter works because i used my test light. it plugs in a cigarette lighter. idk whats going on. its quite aggravating. the yellow wire gives the power light and the ground gives the ground light but when touching orange nothing. what im thinking is maybe theres a cut or something in the wire somewhere under the dash. so maybe 2 morrow ill try to follow the wire and if i find something just replace. or ill be running the wire to my battery.

Re: wiring help. extremely confused

just run the 12v constant directly from the batt. (with a inline fuse off course) . the 12v constant(orange) going out seems to be a very common problem, with an apparently impossible to find fuse problem.

Re: wiring help. extremely confused

Is there possibly anything else that I could splice into other then running it staright to the battery? That's not to hard to get to ether? I mean I'll do it if i have to but I rather run the wire somewhere else

Re: wiring help. extremely confused

better to do it from the batt. that way you will also have better wiring. i did mine in 12gauge. cost is roughly 6 dollars to do.

the wiring is backwards on these two wires. the new radio needs 12 volts constant on the yellow wire and 12 switched on the red wire. see if that makes a difference

what I know is the orange has no power running through it. I checked it with the check light and it's dead. I'm assuming the wire is cut or chewed somewhere (at one point had mice in the car). I went ahead and wired a new power wire to the battery but here's my new problem. The radio works but doesn't save any presets at all. So would your idea fix this? Cus as of right now the power wire is attached to the red wire on the radio and my yellow wire is attached to the yellow wire on the radio.

you have it backwards. attached the power wire to the yellow wire, are you using an aftermarket harness? or did you cut ur cars harness?
