In the middle of putting 5.25's in the dash..
Today I got started. It's taking a little longer than I thought it would because I have to cut the 4x6 brackets to make the 5.25's fit and all I have is a dremel and I'm burning up cutting wheels like crazy. What I'm wonder tho is do I need to put something like cardboard in between the speaker and the bracket to close the gaps left from putting a round speaker in the 4x6's place? Just looking for the best sound. Any help appreciated and pics would be awesome. Thanks.

As long as the speakers are secured you are fine. No need to fill the gap. It's up to you if you want to put a small piece of sound deadener under the speaker.
I bought a Dynamat "licence plate kit" from ebay. Just the right amount. Helps keep dash rattles to a minimum.

I ended up putting 6.5's in. Had to ditch the whole bracket. Sounds really good even with a factory cd player.

Didn't take any. I could take a pic through the dash grill. lol
I don't have any of the AC/heater ducts or anything under my dash. The car's been gutted before. That could have possibly made it a little easier for me. I don't remember what it looks like exactly with all that stuff but honestly I don't think any of it would have interfered.
The depth was perfect tho. Even over the gauges.
Edit: Well, I thought they were 6.5's but I think they're actually 6.75's. My uncle has a little junk yard and I found these pioneers in the door of a 98 dodge dakota. I should have actually got the number off them to check which speaker it is exactly but I just swapped them into mine without even thinking.

All I know for sure is they are 3 way pioneers and atleast 6.5's. I might just have to pull the dash and get the part number.

All I had to do was ditch the 4x6 brackets and they fit perfectly. No modifications at all. Used zip tie's to hold 'em in place
