headunit won't turn on?..2 theories

Day before yesterday I pulled my cd player out of my DD(its falling the hell apart and dead to me, so I'm finishing my camaro project to have a reliable car) it had been installed by someone else, and was in there Idk how long, it's always worked fine. I got it wired in, all the wires connected right, and it worked great, next day I go out to my Camaro, and put wire twist caps on all the leads to make the connections nice and solid and insulated. Then put in the bracket kit so it would mount to my dash, and now the thing won't turn on. The wires in the car itself had been spliced at some point or other with just electrical tape on them, so just to be sure it wasn't a bad connection I redid every wire, cutting out the old splices this time, and cutting out my own as well and making all new splices, and still nothing.

My suspicion is that something is wrong with the headunit itself or it isn't getting enough juice, car has a new battery, but it's been just sitting half a year now, so it hasn't been getting topped off by the alternator. But the headlights and all the other electric crap still work, so Idk if it could be that or not......need some suggestions here to whats wrong, I know on my DD the battery died once and car wouldn't crank but the rest of the electric worked, so I guess I'm wondering if the same can happen with the audio with a low enough battery? going to go get it charged but would like to get a head start on the problem in case its still not working after.......

I would verify with a test light, or volt meter that you have juice to the main power wire to the headunit, also some makes require that there is power to the memory wire (usually orange or yellow from the back of the radio) for the radio to power up. The red main power wire should be hooked to keyed power wire (only has juice when key is turned to on or accessory) and the memory wire should be hooked to a constant on power wire (for you station presets and clock). Also if your speaker wire polarity is reversed on any of the speakers, it could prevent the radio from powering up as a safety feature, to prevent shorting out.

I was actually just thinking about testing the acc on wire and constant wire for juice with test light....As for having the right wires connected to the right wires I'm positive I have them all right. But I might just have to triple check if the light shows I have juice and I get battery charged and they still don't come on...

If your test comes up that there is no juice to either the acc on or constant on, I would check the fuses, I've blown alot of acc fuses, forgeting to disconnect the battery before splicing wires. D'oh

Does your dome light come on? I tried turning my headunit on once and it turned out to be a bad fuse the same one that works with the dome light.

What dome light? XD But incidentally, I did indeed trace the problem to a fuse, I got my test light out and no had juice at the constant or at the acc switch wire(I assume they each have their own fuse and that they're gray 25A ones?) Cause I started pulling fuses and one of those was blown, then swapped the gray ones out and had juice on constant wire..I would have my answer but while I was down at advanced I dropped off my battery to have them recharge it, I'm sure its not more than half full between all the engine and music cranking I've used it for with no alternator time to charge it back up.

Got the battery back today, put it in, have juice at constant wire just like last time, cept stil no gd juice at the acc wire, I need some help with how to trace the source of the problem here...first off I'm not 100% on which fuses belong in my fusebox and what amperage they should all be, I need a fusebox diagram for 85 2.8l v6 fuel injected car, cruise control, AC, non pwr locks, non pwr windows. There are two spots for the grey type of fuse, one is empty, i tried putting in 2 from my DD to see if that fixed it just in case, but still nothing, although my dd has higher voltage fuses, idk if that matters or not, theyre like 14.5 fuses while my camaro uses 12v on everything.
If nothing else, I need to know where I can find the rest of the accessory wire, because I suspect that to be the problem, but I don't want to tear apart my entire electical system and half my firewall, dash or w/e trying to hunt down one little wire.

Thanks, I did solve the problem but its still good to have that since the labels on my box are worn out, turned out I apparently blew two fuses, and despite pulling them all and checking each one, I overlooked one because it didn't blow along the filament where they normally do.
