Replace Delco tapedeck with modern player
Replace Delco tapedeck with modern player
I currently have an 89 trans am GTA w/ the radio control steering wheel.
The current delco tapedeck installed is a Model 16062322.
i am looking for a few compatible modern day mp3/cd/aux jack based players to replace it with. Looking to keep as much stock in place as possible so using the same wiring is a HUGE plus.
if you guys have any suggestions or tell me what you are using, id really appreciate it!

Re: Replace Delco tapedeck with modern player
I would think one of the Monsoon decks by Delco would be pretty much plug and play. Your 89 should have a 20-pin connector that looks something like the picture below with an open 6-pin section. For you, that open 6-pin section may have a single wire in it for your steering wheel controls.
This is from a Delco Theft-Lock CD player, the single green wire is for a SCV (speed controlled volume) that I haven't got to work yet. Steering wheel control input is very close to that, I forget which pin, but I can find out if you end up with a similar radio. BTW, the Monsoon deck would match the interior of your GTA.

Does the delco you suggest have an aux in port? im really looking to connect my zune and bypass a casette adapter that makes the most horendous static noises, even after cleaning the unit.
edit: just saw your previous https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/car-...elco-head.html ill be contacting the guy about the monsoon for pics, etc. thanks for the advice.

I've added an auxiliary input to my tape deck :
