huge noob, wiring help.

Just got a 92 Camaro. never really done any car audio before. everythings stock right now. there was a radio / cassette deck sitting in the slot but nothing was plugged in and a couple cables were cut from it. here's a picture of the cables loose right now, could anyone push me in the right direction to installing a deck? Thanks

Re: huge noob, wiring help.

All stereo wiring has been pretty standard for many years - whatever stereo you get the instructions will tell you what wires are what - or if you don't have instructions go to the website for the stereo manuf and they should have downloadable instructions.

For example - that blue connector - That dark blue wire is usually a remote wire (like for a seperate amp). That white plug is all speaker wires - brown is one side, green another, etc. It's all standardized wiring, so looking at any stereo wiring diag will tell you the function of each wire.

But - you can get wiring adapters at Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc. that give you plugs for your head unit that just plug into the factory harness so you don't have to cut the wires.

Re: huge noob, wiring help.

you should be able to get the wiring harness very easily. i dont have any pics right now, but i might be able to get some, if you dont know what camaronewbie is talking about. its nice because you can plug those three connectors in to one end and the other to your aftermarket headunit with out hacking wires to bit, makes it much easier if you, or the next owner should you sell it, if you need to change something. go to your local autozone, advance auto, pep boys, radio shack or which ever and in the car audio section you need to look for a wiring harness adapter for your year of car (it will be a range) and that its gm. that easy. i suggest looking at a car parts place first, as they defiantly will have it, and most likely cheaper than best buy.

Re: huge noob, wiring help.

Any walmart should also have the harness plug its very simple to install the stereo yourself. You just plug one end of the harness you get from walmart or wherever into those three plugs currently in your dash then splice the wires on there to the wires coming out of the plug in the radio. If you need any help figuring out which wires go to what get the model number on your radio and look up the manual on the internet. Give us a holler if you need anything else and welcome to TGO.

Heres a link to the exact harness you would need.
