Finally got the subs hooked up....now this

So after fussing around getting everything hooked up to my original radio, it worked great, worked great for over an hour of driving the day I got it hooked up. Then I let the car sit for about 4.5 hours and when I came back out to drive, the speakers were really crackly and had a lot of static in them, yet the sub still worked and responded great. I used sections of factory harness to wire in an output that could be sent to the amp and sub. Now for whatever reason after sitting, theres been some change thats making the speakers sound horrible.

I don't know what could be wrong with it if it was working great one second and then horrible the next with no changes to it or anyone touching it.

I don't think that the wires are touching the metal bracket the radio sits on because I put about 25 ft of electrical tape on the whole thing to make sure that the wire would never touch each other or anything else.

Any ideas anyone? Help is greatly appreciated.

Ok first a few questions...:
When you say that the speakers are cracklin do you mean the indash speakers and rear speakers? or the AMP?

You mentioned that you used a section of the factory wiring harness to make an output to put into the Amp. Where did you splice into the factory harness? Did you use a line level conveter? Or did u just cut a RCA wire off and wire it into the speaker leads?

Second, when you ran the RCA cables to the amp Did you run them next to the power wires? From front to back.

Also some information on how you installed the Power Wires would e helpful,

I used this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...fAudioQ5fVideo

I did not splice and I will not splice the factory harness.

I ran a power cable all the way from the battery of the car to the trunk where the amp is. I did not route the audio and power cables together so they are not humming.

When I hear the crackling sounds I hear them from all the speakers in the car, the sub sounds perfectly fine.

The remote is just a split off from the power cable, but it shouldn't matter because the sub and the amp is not the problem, its the speakers. The factory radio gives pretty good sound when its working right, but not much base the higher the volume goes but anyways....thats pretty much my set up.

I used that much electrical tape the avoid any wires touching, any wires touching the metal bracket that supports the radio, or anything touching anything it shouldn't and causing a ground or a short.

Well the funny thing is I haven't even turned the radio on for a few days since this has been going on until I could figure something out, and tonight while I was driving I decided to give it a try and they sounded perfect, absolutely perfect concert hall quality. What the hell.

cars a harsh environment; temperature, humidity, vibration all wreak havok on connections and if its not solid, you'll have issues. big fan of soldering and shrink wrapping myself.

I crimped them all with butt connectors.

Plus now the whole system is draining the battery. I've had to get two jumps since I installed everything...

For good assurance go over all the wiring again and make sure it's all good make sure your making good ground I had a similar issue and it turned out to be a bad ground and remote wire was making the amp stay on at all time's thus draining my battery.

well somethings not hooked up right... when you turn off the car does your amp turn off? with an aftermarktet deck you have your turn on lead for the amp wire, other than that i dont know what could be draining your battery... what i normally see is bad wiring, when you put the power cable down how did you do it? through the firewall? if you did, did you use a grommet? or did you just drill a hole and feed the wire through?

and what did you mean about putting the audio and power cable together makes it hum??? ive been doing audio installs for years and i ALWAYS route them next to eachother, i tape the RCA's and remote wire together, and run them alongside the power wire, ground by the amp, and ive never heard any humming

Re: Finally got the subs hooked up....now this

Well the amp's directions said that the remote had to be wired from the radio, but if using a stock head unit to just wire it to a power source, so we connected the remote and the powersource from the battery together so I guess thats whats doing it. The amp isn't on when the car is off but theres a slow drain because I have the remote tied directly into the power source? I know I have a good ground because its grounded where the electric hatch it grounded.

I guess I'll have to tear the harness section apart that I used to route the output to the amp and see if I can get the butt connectors to work any better, I don't really want to do that though, but I guess I'm gonna have to....ughhh.

I've just kept it all unplugged for the past few days because if I want to use it I have to plug it back into power every time or it will drain the battery, and then I have to listen to the whole system at full blast for a few minutes to get the static to go away, and if theres one thing I can't stand with speakers, its a bad fuzzy signal.

I routed them differently because I didn't want to get alternator whine. I get it sometimes when I'm driving the car, but never when the car is in accessory, so I just wanted to avoid it and it was easier to route them seperately because the power cable is like 4 gauge wire and barely fits under the plastic moldings on either side of the car without taking them off.

Either get an aftermarket deck or get an integration piece or you'll just be draining the system, even if the amp is off it will still pass to ground that's why we use turn on leads and your fuzzy sound sounds like engine noise

Re: Finally got the subs hooked up....now this

another reason for you havin a dead battery is when you add a system in your car and your altenator isnt in great condition. might want to check into that and make sure the altenator is working.
