Oh, You can break the back window with subs... I would check the rods that lock and unlock the doors. Also the rod going from the handle to the latch.

Re: door rattles!

Hey Evilemokid94 check your outer door handles... if they are anything like the ones on my car they rattle and shake like crazy. I'm in the process of searching the threads here to see how to fix it.

Now I'm not saying that you can't break the hatch with subs, but it's pretty damn hard. I don't think the average persons amp and sub setup is powerful enough to break the glass considering are cars are nowhere near air tight therefore it takes alot to build up enough pressure to bust that window.

However with a beastly amp and big enough subs you can break just about anything

Back to the original Q, i vote for the vents in the door jamb. Both my Camaro and Firebird had that problem and it was the vents

Re: door rattles!

unless you actually throw the sub through the glass itself, you're not going to break it anytime soon. the air pressure can't build up enough to cause issues; you'll see the door glass push out from the roof line long beforehand to vent the pressure.

as everyone else mentioned, check the vents at the back of the door, make sure your weatherstripping's in good shape, and check to make sure the rods in the door aren't touching anything else (you can always but a little foam around them to eliminate the metal on metal)

the fact that 2 ppl have done it says that the vibrations alone can crack glass... riddle me that

Sound reflexs off glass,it does not absorb it.The only way a window could break is if its already cracked .Ive seen windshields pushed out the car then breaking.

And to the OP.Check the door lock rods and door handle rods. They rattle like crazy.Put some foam used for copper pipes over them.It black and covers it completely that should fix it.Also check out the window as mentioned above.

Just go to home depot or lowes and tell them you need pipe insulation. That stuff's cheap too, like 50 cents a foot.

Re: door rattles!

update well today i took the upper black trim off of the door to see if i could see what was rattling and i still cant but when im on the outside of my car i can still hear a rattle really bad and its not my door vents or my door handle or mirror, also my 6x9 is vibrating pretty bad... but i noticed that if i applie pressure on the outside of the door about middle ways of the door the rattle stops, anyone know what it might be now? this rattle makes my car sound and looks worse than it does now and i dont like it, also i have an idea, i might take some old pillow stuffing and stuff the door to see if that till get rid of it, anyone see a problem with this?

Re: door rattles!

Fire hazard possibly i would remove the panel and then try and replicate the rattle soon enough you will have that little bast$%^ pinpointed. My subs just move the whole hatch up and down the glass is very strong and i have tint so if it does breaks it wont shatter. It could be your window motor the lock rods or the door panel hitting door skin maybe.

Re: door rattles!

see if you door has a inner support that goes along the door skin.
in my pickup the body shop did not glue the skin to the side impact protection, every time I shut the door or music made it rattle like a beer can with rocks in it.
check out this sight. this is similar.

Since the general agreement is something between the door & inner panel, & the panel has to be carefully removed,
while it's off, turn on the tunes & look // listen for the vibration.
If it's gone with the panel off, check the mounting tabs also.

Cut and put some Dynamat on the back of the license plate. Works great.

Is the bottom of the plate inserted in the retainer? A pic of the retainer can can be seen in post #11 (BlueeZee's car) of the following link:

yes it is, its more of the sides of the plate that shake and rattle, if i apply force to the entire plate and i mean a good amount of force or i hold down the sides of the plate it doesnt do it, any way i can bolt down all 4 bolt holes? that would fix rhat i believe

Re: door rattles!

I know on my car the door panel rattles at the rear section of the drivers side door. One of the little push in clip things don't work so the top plastic just rattles on the metal every time I hit a bump.

I mean personally I'd just use some type of adhesive pad. Cheap, can't see it and it won't fall out. I don't know exactly how bad it is or how the camaros are set up since its been a good while since I've been around a third gen camaro but it's just a suggestion.

I doubt if that would fully fix it since you will still have metal on metal contact. I use a small dish washing sponge behind the license plate. Has worked well for the last 8 years.
