Quick component speaker wiring question.
I just received my order from third gen ranch of some 4x6 cerwin vega plate's for the front and some MB quart 6x9 that were made in Germany. Anyways on the 4x6's there are 3 connectors 2 that go to positive and one negative one positive goes to the crossover and the other goes to the woofer. What I'm wondering is if I have to hook up both of the positive connectors or just the the bigger one of the two?

Re: Quick component speaker wiring question.
do you have a picture of the connectors? you should only have 1 pos, 1 neg. although i have seen some plates that let you bi-amp (send different signals to mid vs tweeter)

Re: Quick component speaker wiring question.
Do you have corssovers with them? If not just tie the tweeter aqnd woofer together and run your wires, if you have caps on them make sure they're oriented properly, at your speaker connection just tie the tweeter pos in with the woofer pos and same for the negs, then put your female connector on and plug em in that's about all you need to do
I'm not seeing the second connector on the + side, you don't meant the blue wire do you?

a little blurry, but i'm guessing there's a cap (tootsie roll looking thing) connecting the two connectors?

Sorry about that ( crappy cell phone camera ) The wires go into the circuit board but I can't really tell where it goes to. They are soldered on each side of the board underneath it.

Yeah don't touch that one lol tie the tweeters and woofers in and connect them, just strip and twist the positives together and same with the negatives, put your connector on and crimp it in place, everything will work from there

Everything is wired up already the blue wire was all I was curious about, I didn't know if it needed power going to it because it has a little metal tab that is the same size as the negative tab.

Re: Quick component speaker wiring question.
If we're talking the same speakers (CV HED46 plates), you'll want to wire both positives in together. How you do this is up to you, but we typically use a splitter to pull two wires off of one to make the connection. However, realize that in doing this, you will be loosing some wattage to the speakers. This will make your rear speakers sound as if they are playing louder than the front ones. You can adjust this with balance and face settings.

Re: Quick component speaker wiring question.
Just split your positive connection in two and connect both. These speakers were actually supposed to come with a crossover when hey were first designed. CV makes some strange products, though. Sound great, but something about the actual manufacture is just...odd.

Re: Quick component speaker wiring question.
Just thought I would update. I got everything all hooked up and everything sounds great had to put washers under the driver's side plate because it touched the gauge cluster. Very happy with the sound quality and for 45 bucks total from third gen ranch I couldn't ask for more. Now I'm thinking about getting rid of the 2 hifonics 12's I got and put one good sub in. I already have an mmats amp that is rated for 1000 watts rms at 1 Ohm. I got that for free because it was broken, a soldering gun and a couple hours and I had it working good as new. Any suggestion's on a good 12 inch sub?

Pioneer TS-W308D4
Alpine SWR-1223D
Alpine SWR-1242D
Pioneer TS-W3002D2 (Highly recommended)
Kenwood Excelon KFC-XW12R (my second choice)
Five should be enough, right?

Memphis MOJO, 15-CM12D2 or 15-CM12D4, the difference is a dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm voice coil. 1100 watts RMS/2200 watts peak.

Re: Quick component speaker wiring question.
I wouldn't go with pioneers. Period. I yank those as much as I do xplods and duals, I am a big fan of alpine I'm running a single 12 type r, the memphis al mentioned is awesome too, my top reccomendation though is jl's W series, either a W3, W6 orrrr if its within your price range a W7, normally I intall the 7's for competition series tho, a W3 is the best sub for its price, one of my personal favorites
