You can, but i wouldnt. You want to mount them somewhere secure so they dont rattle around.

Re: mounting my amp and capacitor?

the seats are not a good idea - front's dont have the kind of support you need, rears don't have the clearance. not to mention you'll have issues with tripping over wires.

if you're not looking to do a lot of customization, your best bet is going to be in the rear hatch area

Re: mounting my amp and capacitor?

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a small piece of plywood and indoor/outdoor carpet to cover it... Use a couple metal straps to screw it to the sub box and hide the straps under the amp. And find a way to hide the wires as there's nothing thieves like more than wide-open setups that will only take seconds to either cut or unplug.

Get rid of the capacitor... If you need it, you have other problems to address. If your current electrical system won't handle the amp, adding the cap is only a band-aid. Upgrade the body to engine, alt to battery, and battery to ground wires (used 8 gauge for all of these). And then your alternator if your budget allows (you can get a 200A alternator that should handle just about anything short of a million watt system with 20 subs).

Re: mounting my amp and capacitor?

i dont need it, but when i was buying stuff for my car audio, a few people told me to pick up a cap just to be on the safe side on my system to protect my alturnator and battery so since it was only $30 i picked one up.

Re: mounting my amp and capacitor?

Upgrade the cables and you won't have quite so much strain on your alternator and battery with all of the high-resistance wiring there. You should have had enough leftover from your amp kit to redo all of those wires (assuming you have a 400A 8-gauge amp kit).

Re: mounting my amp and capacitor?

You may not notice it, but I'm sure you won't enjoy killing an alternator every few months. I know guys that run audio shops... They say those cheapo WalMart style caps are worthless. If you want a real cap, look for something called a Battcap, which is essentially a second battery. The cheap ones are $80, the good ones around $300.

My sound system is why I had to take it out of my car every few months. The voltage regulator or some other part of my alternator would get fried and I got sick of fixing the thing, so I'm cutting down on my sound system. I killed the alternator for the first time within about 4 months of having the sound system installed, second voltage regulator crapped out after 7, but the diode assembly went first. If you're running the cap, you still have to charge it as it discharges into the amp, so it's essentially useless.

Re: mounting my amp and capacitor?

Same thing... The things I'm thinking of are made by Visionik or something like that. They look like actual batteries.

:edit: Made by Kinetik, actually... As here: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...Batteries.aspx

Okay, scratch that, they are actual batteries. I'd still get a bigger cap than that Boss audio thing (Boss is a joke).
