Running Power wire?

I've done a few setups off 2500 rms, 15's, 18's, And it was all easy to do because I was running the power wire through a scion xb, which has easy clearance through the firewall.

What did you guys do to run 0 gauge wire through a camaro? Did you run it through the firewall or did you run it under the car with zipties? There is alot of sh*t in the way to run it through the firewall.

I have second question as well, What in your opinion "is too much bass?"

Do you think 2500 watts is overkill on the car, considering its old?

Re: Running Power wire?

I ran my power wire parallel to the antenna in/out side of the car, then fished up thru the fender.

I've got 2500 in my Z28, I don't think its overkill, but I don't like TOO much bass, just enough to thump.

Re: Running Power wire?

there's a lot of room underneath the sill panels on these cars to run wiring, just go with whichever side you've got the battery on. my last 2 setups had a passenger side battery, so i too made a hole near the antenna, added a grommet, and ran it up inside the fender.

Re: Running Power wire?

I run a 2 aught wire and I drill a hole in the firewall below the fan motor at the passenger floorboard. I use a rubber grommet with some super black gasket maker for stability and extra protection. I run the wire in plastic loom beside the black wire channel to the rear plastic panel beside the rear seat and run it up through the bottom structure and lay it over the rear wheel well. I then fish it through to the back where I have the battery. I use the gasket maker to help glue it down in a few places where I like it to lay. I have 3 third gens and have done them all the same with mounting the battery in the passenger rear, along with the amps, I run a distribution block on the passenger fender and power everything from it. I run a #4 wire to the alternator and starter and #2 wire to the fans. I use a 160 alternator or larger. I can jump the car from the front or rear if the battery goes dead. This is the ultimate in flexibility for adding fans, amps, gadgets of any kind. I always use loom and gasket maker. It is too dangerous to run the wire outside the car though a lot of people do. I have a 200 amp resettable breaker at the battery for safety and I can kill power to the entire car in an instant. I use the battery place in front for a transmission external filter and line routing to the cooler.

Re: Running Power wire?

I drilled a small hole just big enough for the grommet and the 0 AWG wire in the firewall near the pedal assembly. The hole also serves for a place to run the rest of my aftermarket sensor wiring easily.

I ran the power wire under the carpet and used cushioned fastners where I could get to a sheet metal screw easily to hold it place. The amps are mounted in the back. I used 2 fuse blocks because at one point because I had a yellow top in the car also, but it has since died. I do not have rear seats anymore so I used the backseat bracket for a ground connection.

I run 1200 RMS to each 18" sub (2 total). It's enough to kill the battery and alternator if it's over 12-14 on the head unit at highway speeds. I need a larger alternator. That being said it can vibrate the hatch around, but doesn't hurt anything. Contrary to rumors I've yet to see a sound system have too much bass it blows a hatch off the hinges. I was told that by a Car Audio Store when I wanted them to build a box.

Re: Running Power wire?

Run it down the firewall then along the chassis using Adel aerospace clamps to hold the cable. Then go in above the rear or through the wheel well make sure to use rubber grommets wherever you cut through the body and the wire passes through. That's how it should be done with cable that large. Its how I did my battery relocation.

I like your idea. And wow! You got two 18's in a third gen camaro? LOL.

Re: Running Power wire?

Yes, you'll find with enough brain storming, fabrication, and money just about anything is possible. At one point I purchased 2 more 18s and was considering putting them in the rear seat area.

Re: Running Power wire?

I ran my 4ga wire from:
- the battery, along the passenger side of the engine compartment
- then around the back of the motor
- and drilled a hole straight into the firewall at the driverside top cornerish.

There was plenty of clearance, but you need to take your whole bottom dash apart (easy) so you can index a point to where you wont hit this black box mounted to the firewall, and may need to tape the big wiring harness back so you don't cut it with a drill bit.
I then ran the wire along the driver side of the car under the carpet, as there is ALOT of room in the wire holder that runs next to the seat. Peel back the b-pillars, and the plastic housing that leads into the trunk area, and there is PLENTY of room for it.

I'll get some pictures later, right now it is a little messy, but only because time was of the essence when I did it.

Re: Running Power wire?

I ran mine from the battery up over the wheel well and down under the A/C-Heater box and got a bigger grommet and fed it through where the antenna goes into the car then under the sill plates to a distribution block. at the back near the spare tire area.

Ever thought about doing a wall behind the passenger seats? That would be killer looking. I've thought about doing that for awhile with two 15's, but I decided to run a 8 inch sundown sub in the back.

Re: Running Power wire?

I thought about doing a box in the rear seat only. A wall in mine would be very difficult with the roll bar and x bracing.

Good luck on your build!

Re: Running Power wire?

i ran mine down the passenger side, beneth the passengerside side panel near the door, through the doorjam, into the fender and into the engine bay where its hidden by the hood lip. looks clean and i only had to poke i hole in the rubber circle under the plastic peice then had to take out my inner fender cover to run it in the engine bay but you cant see it.
