Car radio
Hi,
Just bought this 1991 Pontiac Firebird GTA and it has a upgraded radio in it, the ones with the removable face plate or whatever. But for some reason the radio doesn't work. Any ideas on how to find the problem? Not sure if the deck is broken or the stereo is getting no power?
Thanks

Re: Car radio
is the original factory connector still in the car or did the previous owner cut it out to install the new radio?

Re: Car radio
Thanks for the reply!
The Radio is some JVC KD-G210 deck. I went to go try it at best buy on their units to see if it worked but all of there's had the port on the opposite side.
As for the box area, I know the original owner did something to allow for an updated deck of course but thats all i know.
thanks

Re: Car radio
i would suggest that you pull the whole radio out. check for an inline fuse on either the red or yellow wire, also check for a fuse on the back of the radio. if those are good or are not there connect the red and yellow wire to power and the black wire to ground. make sure none of the other wires grounded or touching each other especially the blue one and the blue with white stripe. if the radio still does not come on then it is a bad radio. if it does then the connections are bad. if you do not have access to a bench top power supply you can use the cars battery, just be careful. to pull the radio you will probably have to remove the cover and pull the whole radio housing.

Re: Car radio
So guess what. I pulled the radio just to see if I could find a plug not in all the way or something. Turns out the guy who did the wiring just took the old radio out put a new box in and than put a new radio in, didn't wire it or anything. So, now my question is, I have all these randomly colored wires and I have no idea how to get them to connect to the port on the back of the radio...

Re: Car radio
Yeah I had to go off of the car wiring diagram provided on here and cross check it with the one on the back of the radio itself. Neither was really right but after some reasoning I was able to figure it out. Thanks though.
