front speaker recommendation

Hey guys I have an 87 GTA with the performance sound system and it sounds like crap (distorted when I use the gain option) so I decided to remove the sail panels and noticed that there are 6x9 in place is that whats suppose to be there in the front the speakers seem fine but they sound distorted as well when using the gain could this be that the amplifier is no good or is it that the speakers need replacement I would like to keep everything stock I don't want to do any modifications for the speakers to fit properly any suggestions is it the speakers or amp?
Thanks

The"Performance Sound System"(UQ7 option) does not use 6x9s.Behind your sale panels, your system should look like these

If you want to keep it stock, the front 4x6s are still available.P/N 16033662

Re: front speaker recommendation

Rears are not available, nor are the subs, the subs can be re coned. As for the rears you would need a doner set to cut off the wire with the plug and you can solder it to a front set of speakers and use them for your rears.I did all of the above to restore my system.

Thanks for the help after verifying my rpo like you mentioned its UQ7 which leads me to believe the rears must have been blown and they replaced them with 6x9 that would explain the crappy sound hopefully when I replace everything that the amp is still good
