What amplifier should i run with my set up ? I'm using my stock
AC Delco UX1, I've added an auxiliary audio port already and plan on
using JBL GTO 928 for the sail panel speakers . I don't know what dash
speakers i want to go with . If anything the JBL P6462 would be nice .
My goal is to have nice sound quality not loudness . Also i would like to keep
the amplifier footprint as small as possible or at least small enough to be placed
in the rear glove box or where the spare tire goes .

 

this is what comes to mind for me, it will fit in the rear glove compartment. i havent heard anything bad but with electronics in general you give up some longevity with smaller heat sinks. i think i would get a regular sized one and put it in the spare tire well because you are already going to have alot of heat build-up in the closed space

Two things... I have the P6462's, they are awesome. You'll need some spacers for them to work. Just find a way to raise them up a little. The one on the drivers side will have to be turned around, the magnet hits the top of the speedo housing. You'll find you'll hear them more than the other speakers and you'll be glad they are high quality.

Secondly, I don't know if it applies to the amp mentioned before, but amps heat up and need a way to cool... a enclosed compartment may not be the greatest idea. just my 2 cents worth.. stone

 

I went ahead and bought the P6462's on Amazon for $74.00 shipped . Any idea what amp i should run with this setup ? if anything i will mount the amp in the rear well and fab a vented cover for it or something .

 

use an amp that is 100w rms at two ohm's, and you will have to turn the gain down for the fronts. just make sure it isnt a cheap chinese brand.

Wow, great price for the P6462's! I love them. I'm using the P963's in the sail panels and a 10 inch Bazooka tube. As for recommendations for an amp, I recommend a 4 channel Rockford Fosgate for the interiors and a $75 RF2002 bridged for your sub (I'm assuming you're going to have a sub). The Rockfords are small and can be mounted out of the way and produce a really nice sound.

You need to stay in the power range of the P6462s. Also, they are 2 ohm speakers so you must use an amp that is 2 ohms stable. I run 6462s in the front and JBL GTO 608Cs in the sails and I use this amp...

It's only 10W higher than the 6462's RMS rating and is 2 ohm stable. You run no risk of blowing them. However if you run 100W RMS to them, they'll die in no time.

 

i'm going to wait on the amp a little bit . I want to see what it sounds like with
all four JBL speakers . I have the GTO928 waiting in the garage . Now i'm just waiting on the P646 to arrive .

 

Birdstheword - If you like the JBL, why not add the JBL amp? Also, amp should be fine in the spare tire area.

One last thing, make sure you have a deep cycle battery so you can jam and not worry about your lights dimming to the beat of the music. Stone

 

Also, make sure you do the "BIG 3". It will help to keep the lights from dimming more than you think.

 

THIS.

Use AT LEAST 4GA wire with a high strand count for your big 3. People may say it's overkill but when wiring high powered components in a car that wasn't built for them, too much is never enough. A good AGM battery (Optima is practically a household name) will help your situation as well.

I'm running a total of 740W RMS @14.4VDC in my bird and after doing the big 3 and using an Optima Red Top battery I have negligible dimming, even with every electronic accessory wide open.

 

My BIG 3 is done in 0-GA. I consider it "ultimate protection" rather than overkill.

 

Go with an Alpine KTP....my suggestion. You won't be dissappointed

 

UPDATE: The seller on amazon flaked on the sale of the P6462's, so now i'm on the hunt again for dash speakers .

Tried out the P6462's today, specifically the driver's side speaker . with some notching it should sit pretty low .

 

as far as ampsinfinity and memphis both make 5 channels that would nicely power the stock location speakers and have a higher power sub channel too so it simplifies mounting since you only run one amp if you are running a sub if not crutchfield had a clarion amp 2x100 that was just larger than a dollar bill might work with your fitment desires as they mentioned possibly mounting under the dash and you said in the rear glove box this should work there its so small and just vent the lid somehow so heat wont stay in therea
