Best speakers to go with my new stereo?

Ok a good friend just gave me a Kenwood KDC-MP338 and its rated at a maximum output of 50wx4 I want to make sure I buy a speaker that will take full advantage of what I got without being over kill. Im not one of these guys that needs to hear it out in the street while im inside with the windows closed I just want a good sounding system that I can enjoy without over powering or under powering the speakers

Something to fit in the stock locations, I listen to all kinds of music, pretty much everything but Rap. But mostly classic rock, hairband 80's. a little metal and outlaw country,. Far as budget goes Id like to keep it on the cheap side but I want something that will last and sound good

Re: Best speakers to go with my new stereo?

your really better off going someplace like aftermarket shop or best buy and listen to what sounds good to you and then buy them from sonic electronics or amazon. different people link different things and its hard to say one thing is good for someone else. just dont get any Chinese crap. polk, pioneer, rockford, alpine are the things that come to mind

Re: Best speakers to go with my new stereo?

Yeah, bestbuy has a really good sound wall set up (though they are really overpriced on their goods, so check 'em out, then hit the internet!). Their techs seem to have a good grasp on things too as far as what works/what doesn't.

I have pioneer speakers in mine, I've had some sony's that were pretty good too. The absolute best speakers I ever had were made by a company called "blaupunkt". Those things rocked, didn't matter what I listened to either.

I recommend JBL 6 X 9's P963 and JBL P6462 4 X 6's in the dash.. get you a nice 2 channel amp and a small sub in the rear (I use an 8 inch Bazooka tube).. Stone

Re: Best speakers to go with my new stereo?

should have said this before but everything is a compromise in audio. so if you like a certain speaker 6x9s in particular are rated for high power and powered off just the hu arent going to sound the same. so pay attention to that at the store. lower power rated speakers may end up sounding better if you arent going to use an amp

yeah not going to use an amp just keeping it simple trying to figure out what wattage range I should be looking for.

I personally love JL Audio speakers. They have different lines to match your budget, if you can afford the expensive ones, get em.

Re: Best speakers to go with my new stereo?

good hu's ussually put out 12-18w rms and thats good for the 4x6's but not too many good 6x9s rated that low. i would just go to the store like i said and see what sounds good powered from just the HU

Re: Best speakers to go with my new stereo?

I personally have Alpine 6x9 in the rear and componinets in the front and 2 12" subs in the trunk. It hits hard but I am going to upgrade to JL's E5 soon.

Nice, I think Im getting to old for subs in the trunk, but I do like the looks of you set up. I have a set of 4" Pyles (the old ones when they were still top notch) I may put in somewhere but I dont want to butcher anything to much

Re: Best speakers to go with my new stereo?

Our cars are awesome for bass and difficult for most everything else. IMO, it's worth the effort to squeeze a 5 1/4 in the dash. With a heat gun and some persistence you can get a shallow mount in there and you'll be much happier with vocals. I'm not a fan of 6x9's in general but given that you're not going to amplify the system, that's probably your best choice.

Hey gregl316,

How do those 12's perform in the vert? I haven't bothered doing any in mine because I figured it would be a waste of time since the top is down on min 99.9% of the time I drive it.

Re: Best speakers to go with my new stereo?

think of what is important what sort of budget you are going to have, and go play with stuff at the store. chances are the more people you talk to the better because everyone has opinions on what it best and then you have to take all that and narrow down to what is important to you. just dont let them talk you into buying anything, its almost alys cheaper on sonic electronics or something because they give free shipping, free mounts and harnesses etc.

i like the bluetooth features and usb, because all i listen to is mp3s and xm. the mp3s i can put on my phone and it automatically links to my radio and plays when i am in the car. i like the high quality sound not necessarily show type bass and volume. so i get clarion hu's and polk speakers, they have alot of features that i like for the price

Re: Best speakers to go with my new stereo?

Since I used to run a car audio shop back in the 90's, let me say this about sound walls.....

Depending on the store, they will have a custom wall built. This is not only for fitment, but for audio quality. They are designed to make a speaker sound good for that particular environment. I've sold speakers to guys and they loved them in the store, but hated them in their car.

So, I'd try to listen to a speaker in another third gen.....that way you won't be disappointed.

Good choice

Also, big fan of Pioneer subs. Great performance for the price.
