2 25amp fuses vs 1 50amp fuse

While browsing amps the other day I saw a two channel one with two 25 amp fuses rated at around 1000 watts. Now ususally for this wattage I would expect one 40-60 amp fuse. Is the amp with two 25 amp fuses grossly overrated or is it maybe running 1 channel through each fuse and really possible of pushing what it says?

The power supply is probably drawing the current in though a parallel circuit, thus the fuses are additive. The 1000 watts is prolly not RMS, but some peak value.

The 1000 watts was probably achieved milliseconds before the flames shot out of it!

Be careful, there are no REAL standards by which amp manufacturers rate their amps. As long as it did it once, under extreme conditions, they can advertise it that way. I've really been impressed with what some amp manufacturers are doing when they give you a sheet where they actually tested your amp, tell how it did, power acheived, test conditions, etc... It's a good feeling to know exactly what YOUR amp will do!

(My Kicker amps all exceed the specs by s decent margin.)

My ZR600 has 3 30 amp fuses on the case. The main reason is that there aren't any 90 amp blade type fuses out there. In your case, there are 50 amp fuses, but only on the big blade styles, which would cost them more money to utalize.

As a matter of fact, when I wired that amp through my fuse block, I had an awful hard time finding 80 amp blade type fuses, and when I did I paid a fortune for them. What I did was to run 2 separate 8 gauge lines from the fuse block to the amp instead of a single 4 gauge. This way not only did the wiring off of the fuse block look much better (all the same gauge) but I was able to use 4 40 amp fuses, which are a dime a dozen.

My DX700 also has the 3-90A fuse setup. I ran 2 8 ga. wires, each fused with a 50A fuse. I had a 4 gang fuse block, and needed to fill it anyway, and all the same wire does look a lot better as Jim said.

BTW....The DX700 powering 1 solo 12 is awesome!
