Sound System Space Issue. PLEASE HELP!
First I would like to say that I'm new to this site and it has been a big help for me.

Now since my mechanical issues are out of the way for at least a while, I was thinking about installing a speaker and amp. My dad recently told me that he has a 15in speaker already in a box that isn't being used. I already had it set that I could put the speaker in the open section of the hatchback, but then I thought about where tf was I gonna put the amplifier?!
I was gonna put it behind the passenger seat but I occasionally have people riding with me and the back seats get used.
So if anyone can suggest spots in the car where to set an amplifier and also enough Watts to really bump, you will be most helpful!
(I don't need anything about a stereo btw. I already have an AUX adapter)

Re: Sound System Space Issue. PLEASE HELP!
You have several amp placement options depending on the amp dimensions;
1. Build an amp rack and place directly behind the rear seats on top of the gas tank
2. Remove spare battery and install there (just need to fab a wood mounting panel
3. Remove rear glovebox and install there (again, you will need to fab a mounting plate.
For 2 &3, I would suggest a class D amp as they stay cooler in confined areas.

i would add to number 3 the spare tire well, i think quite a few people dont have a need for the spare anymore.

Thanks. I think I'm going to try number one but about how long should the screws be to avoid hitting the tank?

most people have a different size than original. i tossed mine a long time ago when i was chucking stuff for weight. i figured im paying for aaa anyway.
as far as the tank alot of people put ply wood down between the rear seat and the well so it doesnt slide, then you have to get screws not quite as long as the plywood is thick to build off of.

I made a mounting plate and put mine in the spare tire well.
I have never liked/used a space saver spare anyway-especially one that is 30 years old.

I put both of mine (MMATS 14001.1 and PPI 600.2) in the rear glove box area.
I had to fabricate up some brackets to hold them, but that space was perfect. You just remove the cardboard part behind the door and you have a good amount of room.
You can keep the spare for just in case, and still have the amps completely hidden.

i like that second one, well both are cool but i am more into hidden audio stuff. i think i would find a way to make some vents in the spare tire cover look nice. and put a few above those.

Mine is in the glove box just like the above. But also remember if you are making the box for the sub it wouldn't be that hard to just put the amp on or recessed in the box.
I also suggest Alpine amp. I got the MRX-V70 and it is loud! It's 5 channel so can run the rest of your mids and highs as well as the sub. I have a single JL Audio 10" (car is a convertible) and it thumps harder than my 4 12"s I use to have in another car.

Hidden stuff is awesome. If you are pushing a lot of power though, that amp can get hot, so just make sure that it's vented and or cooled. I've had friends burn up their amps because of the stupid places they mount them. Anyway, goodluck!!!

Re: Sound System Space Issue. PLEASE HELP!
I used the space where the spare tire was and the same place on the opposite side where the storage box was. If a guy wanted to get really created there is space in front of each of the rear wheel wells. You would have to do some cutting and make an entrance door but I have run wiring through that area and put a small infinity kappa speaker eq in there. The convertibles put a lot of (top) framing in there.
