1988 Trans Am front speakers?

Have 1988 Trans Am GTA, owner before me took out all old speakers and replaced with sonys, I'll probably swap for alpines. Also has 2 12" subs, but there are no speakers in the front. As in all sound comes from behind the seats, and I feel like this isn't right. Were they taken out or never actually in the car? And how difficult would it be to add them in?

Front should have speakers, very simple to put back in. ( I believe it's 4 screws on-top of the dash, haven't replaced mine yet.)

If you are going after market, crutchfield.com has 4x6 alpines with adapter wire that will make them plug right in.

If you want to go stock, gmpartscheap.com

They should be 4x6's and alpine does make a speaker that mounts right in most aftermarket 4x6's mount to deep but alpine and pioneer makes some that fit like gloves..... theres more then four screw like 8 and 3 r 4 in the defrost vent but once u get em out it comes right off takes like 20 mins with a brew in hand lol hope this helps u out man

Just be careful on the magnet size for the front drivers speaker location as the top of the dash might interefere, it did on my 87 TA with JBL speakers.

As a fix, I picked up some Aura home drivers (3.5") and a set of Pioneer tweeters. I fabbed up a plate, cut some wire and reconnected everything.

Re: 1988 Trans Am front speakers?

Those are the ones should work well and like I said pioneer makes some that fit good.... u can space the driverside a lil bit so u can use speakers with a magnet mount depth more then 1.75 if I reamber right some people on here have cut the dash and vent work up to fit bigger speakers but u can do the same with spacing it a lil bit

Re: 1988 Trans Am front speakers?

I normally use a heat gun and slightly mold the plastic duct underneath to fit the magnet

Re: 1988 Trans Am front speakers?

The vents that cover the speakers, how does one go about getting them off? I tried just prying them off with a screwdriver way back when I posted this, but they appeared to be screwed in from underneath. Is this a job that would require the whole dash be taken apart? Or am I (hopefully) mistaken?

Dont pry. Whole daspad comes out. 4 screws around the defrost vent (I hold a magnet so i dont drop them), and a couple underneath the front lip.

Good ideas, heat gun to shape duct work and the magnet to catch the dash screws.
