Undercar rubberizing the sub box..

Since the box I got is made of 5/8" Particle board, what would I gain out of rubberizing the inside of the box?

I plan on putting silicone on all the edges and 1 inch of polyfill on all sides of the box, so what does rubberizing do?

Does it have any negative effects?

Undercoating it creates yet another barrier to help ensure that there are no air leaks, plus it damps the enclosure to help it sound a little bit better. I'd forget about the polyfill that you're attaching to the sides, and just get the regular polyfill designed for pillow stuffing and put about 1lb/cubic foot in.

Thanks alot Jim. You always give prompt, informative and non-biased answers to most peoples common problem. This board is very lucky to have such a knowledgable person as yourself.

As for the poly-fill, the only reason I was planning on putting it on the sides of the box is because thats what the manufacturer of the subwoofer recommends. I want to get the best quality sound I can out of these.

Once again, thanks.

So if I were to dynomat the inside of the box in my car then it would help the sound? I thought that it would deaden the sound.

A lot of people dynamat the insides of their boxes. I don't, but it can't hurt.

92, thanks for the words I'm not always non-biased though. Plates suck

Plates suck is not biased, it's factual.

That's usually my opinion too, but properly built ported boxes can sound real good. I was EXTREMELY impressed with a single 12" Vega sub in a ported enclosure that I heard at Best Buy. It had some of the best sound I've ever heard, but the box was huge for a single 12".

Have you heard the Infinity perfects yet? I've got 2 in a small sealed box with only about 300 watts going to each of them until tuesday and these are by far the most accurate and best sounding subs i've ever heard. I work at best buy (but not in car-fi) and they really try to push the vega/ported combo. Thats really the only halfway decent sub they sell besides i guess the punch xlc's..
