Those stupid rattling 6x9 panels!!! HELP!!!

I'm currently having a HUGE problem with the panels that my 6x9's go into. Yeah, those factory ones. Anyways, on both sides, but especialy the passenger side, it vibrates and buzzes badly whenever the bass hits at a certain frequency. It really sucks pouch. If someone can tell me what to do about these stupid things, I'd be grateful. It's making my decent system sound like crap. TIA for the help.

Check the door jam vents first. Those rattle really bad when you have alot of bass going to the 6x9s.

Which panel do you think is rattling? The cloth covered one or the one that the speaker screws into?

it's the metal panel that the 6x9 screws into. I'm sure of it, as I have the cover panel off right now. Thanks for the help.

Buy some of that cheap weather stripping that has the self adhesive back to it. Line the edges of the panel with that in any spot that makes contact with the sheet metal of the car. Screw the plate back into the car and see if the rattles dont go away. Also, your speaker may be loose. Those screws are really easy to strip out.

Assuming the holes aren't stripped, don't use weatherstripping. Go to a decent stereo shop and get some Dynamat. For $20 you can get enough to put Dynamat around both your speakers. This will be far more effective, especially in the long run. Do it right.

Dynamat is overpriced, but I do agree, if you applied Dynamat to the entire metal mounting plate, and screw it very securely to the car, it should do the trick.

Wow, so many helpful replies---where to begin.....

Justins86bird-I'm positive that the screws are alright. I've replaced the crap factory ones with bigger ones and the thing doesn't move. Period.

Jason E- I've thought of putting some sort of sound dampening padding in between the panel and the rest of the car. I don't know about dynamat, as I am reallllly short on funds right now. I'll try some cheap weather strip first, and if that doesn't perform to my standards, I'll put dynamat or some similar sound deadening material on instead. Thanks.

take out your 6 by's and stick your arm down in the opening. you will feel a cardbord tube that runs down to the door jamb louvers. rip it out!! it causes good bass worthy 6 by's to rattle and sound like crap.

i went to car audio place and they suggested taking out the metal plates and replacing them with wooden ones, they said they would do it for me. might want to try that, but I haven't got it done yet, so i can't tell you how it would sound.

ya, i replaced mine with some wooden ones, and since i had to cut new holes i just cut some 6 inchers and 3/4 inch tweeter holes and put some seperates in their. i really like the sound quality differnece. now i know you probably dont want to put some seperates in their, but the point is that i think wood makes for a better cushion to the actual car body.

just a suggestion.
