Where's a goo place to hide an amp?
When I install my amp I want to hide it, here are the Dimensions: 6-7/10"W x 12-8/10"L x 1-8/10"H. I do want to retain both the spare tire well and the "glove compartment" on the opposite side if I can. Since I haven't removed any of the plastics yet, I don't know if it can be installed by the wheel well area. Any other placement suggestions?

Mine used to be in the trunk drop off area so that when you looked in from the back it was looking right at you. This was also cleverly hidden by the t-top bag when in use & not in use but strapped in place.
That's where mine used to be and will be going back to again....

I know you don't want to but I hid mine in the "glove box." I also have my subs pointed down. Most don't know I have subs looking in my car. I don't live in the best areas so i don't want my window broken.

Do you have a pic of how your sub box looks? I imagine it just looks like a false bottom.

How did you get under the driver seat? I just wouldn't think there was any room since the seats sit low.

Putting it in the spare tire well is the best place as long as you have either road side assistance or don't drive more than ~20 miles from home. You can also just use one subwoofer that only takes up the very bottom of the trunk well or 1/2 of the trunk well. You can recess the speaker and cover the top of the "hole" with speaker cloth the same color as the carpet. No one would be the wiser as long as you don't drive around blaring your music. Especially don't crank your music within a mile of your home.

Spare tire well (see Tibo's link) or rear glove box. Out of sight for the "stealth" look

That is really cool. This is my daughters car, so I'll be the one to get the call about the flat tire and promptly remind her that's why I pay extra on our insurance to have someone else come to do that...haha I guess I'm going to have to sacrifice something. I was thinking of removing the trunk plastics and mounting it behind the sail panel. Has anyone done that, any benefits/drawbacks?

I guess I should've said around the rear tire area in front of the spare tire area.

I have mine mounted under the plastics above the passenger rear wheel. Its mounted so the spare tire can still be used but its tight. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

I'll be looking for that pic. That's what I'm looking for, to see how that can be done and still have use of that tire and jack.

Don't mind the mess but this pic is size reference of my amp.

Here it is in place, the only thing I made is flat 90 degree bracket an inch wide to secure the amp on once side. You can see part of the bracke ton the bottom right side of the amp. Oh and don't mind my wiring.

its not going to last long in such a tight area, amps need air space for heat dissipation.

I ran the amp and sub in the car for a year with the amp sitting in the rear seat and after two hours of hard use the amp barely gets hot if any.
I was worried about air flow but don't drive the car often and so far have had no over heating or power loss. I may add a small fan this summer to help it out. If it has any problems I will update this post.

Re: Where's a goo place to hide an amp?
My amp is just a little further back, right where the spare tire mounts. Plenty of air but no real air flow, I have not had a problem with the amp heating up. The newer amps use very good heat sinks and fans and thermal overload switches. I think you would have to mount it where the bottom was against something, in a very confined space with no airflow running at a high volume to even need to be worried about amplifier life.

I always I use a small 4" external fan and depending on the area I'll use two. It's a small price to protect your investment.

i was referring to jpearcy's setup there would have to have fans or something, there is no air and no air movement

His setup is what I am looking at doing and that will definitely get a fan, maybe two.

still have to open up vents in the plastic, seems like you could just put it where the spare is and be done with it. my spare is long gone, needed the room for mufflers and the weight. just get decent tires and aaa plus.

Re: Where's a goo place to hide an amp?
I wanted to keep my spare as a back up to my other back ups haha. That's why it is mounted above the spare. I do have space under the amp for air to move (I know not a lot of air flow) and so far has yet to get warm at all.
I to was worried about it getting warm but from my previous use and the little amount of heat it did produce I am not to worried.

Re: Where's a goo place to hide an amp?
Since this is my daughter's car, she'll be 16 in March, the likelihood of her getting a flat, me being at work and not being able to get to her in a timely matter, that's why I have road hazard on my insurance for such things. I figure the last thing I want to have is a guy that changes the tire out to interfere with all that stuff.

Re: Where's a goo place to hide an amp?
most people have different tires and wheels now anyway, because the original sizes are getting hard to find. aaa plus has free flatbed, and up to a hundred miles, for 110 per year for both my wife and i. not much sense in bothering with the spare that you have to inflate and its going to be the wrong size anyway so if its a rear you have to change it with a front before you go any where. yep, dont think so.

Re: Where's a goo place to hide an amp?
most towing places are that short and around here in a rural area every where you go is over 20 miles from home. most places charge extra for flat bed too, really the fbodies should be towed on dollies or flatbed because most have some sort of limited slip and no one is going to pull the drive shaft. i have been lucky with AAA sending the right equipment for the car, a few times they told me we have to send such and such because your car requires it. most of them will have boards to get the front up without dragging too.
