aftermarket sub boxes,hard to fit????

I recently picked up a nice bandpass box from an audio wharehouse downtown.it is supposed to fit into the hatch area on '85-'92 thirdgens. mines an '84 and I'm sure few people go through the trouble making anything for the '82-'84 family. what makes my trunk different anyways?? I would expect it to sit flush with the rest of the rear deck, but it sticks up a little.would this box fit in an '85-'92 or is it a generic fit to begin with??

I never knew there was a difference.I built a sub box for three 12"s for an 82 I had. Then I pulled it out later and put it in an 86.Fit exactly the same.Sorry that's all I could offer for your post.
