Should i go with 6.5's or stock size dash speakers???

For christmas my girl bought me a new head unit, and some new 6.5" speakers for the front of my car. I know the stock is something like 4.25" or something like that right? Anyways my question is how hard is it to install the 6.5's into the kickpanels and will it sound better or worse? Should i take them back and just get the stock size speakers? Will it cost me more money to get pieces to install them into the kickpanels or is it easy to make something for it?

Stock are 4x6" in the dash. 6.5" in the kickpanels will sound much better but are much more difficult to install. It requires fabricating custom kick panels. Here are my 6.5" separates in my custom kicks:

How long did it take you to make your kickpanels and how much did it cost you? Does anyone know of any resources to building your own kickpanels?

It cost me about $15 and took me about a month. It was my first time doing it. I already had most of the necessary materials, but if I didn't, it probably would have cost me about $50. But, it takes a good bit of skill and a whole lot of patience, along with a lot of trial and error. On the nethirdgen.org car audio board I've got a full step-by-step description with pictures, so you may want to go there and do a search.

Geez, a month?!?! I dont have enough money at the moment to buy kickpanels, and i dont know if i can wait a month. How much better is the sound of the kickpanels compared to the dash. I just wanna be sure its worth it before i wait a whole month to get my stuff installed.

The sound quality is a night and day difference. The imaging and staging are both phenominal from both front seats.

Jim, I went to nethirdgen.org and had no luck finding your message on the audio board regarding how you built your custom kicks.
I really want to try to make some myself, I've got nothing else to do over Winter Break!

You should just make a tech. article and post it here, I'm know there's a ton of us who would rather have our own custom make kickpanels with awesome imaging like yours than blow over $200 on Q forms that suck.
