bridged or not???

I know that bridging your amp to the subs will give you more power, but do you guys think that running separate channels to 2 subs sounds better? i was in an audio place yesterday and the guy was telling me that bass is only mono and that 2 channels will not sound better. but im looking for a clean tight sound, and i always thought that running 2 channels sounded a little better...

Run it in mono. It will sound louder because if a bass beat happens to be just on one channel, both subs will produce it in mono unlike stereo. I doubt you will notice any difference in cleanness quality between stereo and mono.

Other than in classical and some jazz music, virtually all recordings have a mono bass track. Plus, our ears are not capable of percieving direction in low bass frequencies, so you won't be able to tell the difference anyway...especially considering that they're both a mile behind you and only a few inches apart.

The sound quality difference between running a sub in mono or stereo, is negligible. As you know bridging a amp increases the power output, however before you put two subs on that bridged amp make sure it can handle the load. If you use two 4ohm subs in series it produces a 2ohm load, if the amp is not 2ohm stable, use two 8ohm subs they will show a 4ohm load which any amp can handle. Also be aware that running an amp at 2ohm produces more power and more heat, do'nt bury it under stuff.

Actually, two 4 ohm subs in "parallel", not series, results in a combined impedance of 2 ohms.

Another thing to add is when you decrease resistance,(Ohms) you increase THD,(total harmonic distortion). That is what will make your system sound bad.

So sorry, of course you are correct, I'm not sure what I was thinking.

thank you guys...i knew about the impedance drop when u bridge...but i didnt know about the rise in THD. well i bought a Phoenix Gold XS2300 yesterday to run my 2 MTX 5000 10's. I hooked it up yesterday and all i can say is holy ****...i didnt even tune it yet, it was cold and dark by the time i finished but that thing has some power
