Wiring a manual switch onto an amp.... ?

Ok,
I want to install my amp with a cutoff switch on the console. Would I wire the switch onto the + wire, the ground, or the power antenna wire (that I assume can be used to tell the thing to turn on)?

I want to be able to shut it off while Im driving, incase I have to go into a store or something, I dont want everyone in the parking lot knowing what is in my hatch!

Thanks for the help,
Any suggestions for wiring an amp into the car would be helpful, as I am doing the install in about a week!

Thanks,
Daniel

If you want to wire up a switch, put a toggle switch in between head unit and amp on the remote wire (more than likely a blue wire from your deck that you will be connecting to the remote wire on your rca cables.) Or turn the main volume down a block (or a mile depending on stereo) before you get to a store.

Does your radio have a volume control?

Now that I'm done giving you a hard time, I'd basically suggest just what Kiztope said. Just wire the switch into the remote lead.

Thanks,
Should I put a fuse or anything in line before the switch?

It wouldn't hurt. Use a .5 amp fuse.

One thing I noticed. Don't use your power antenna lead. Then if you want to play a cd (or a tape depending) then the amps won't turn on. As for the fuse it's a good idea but I think most already have fuses on them.

hehe. Camaro Guy is right. We just had this problem at work the other day. Some decks just have a single blue lead that works for the power antenna and the remote turn on, but some newer decks like the Alpines are providing separate wires for the antenna and the remote lead, and an antenna wire will not have power when the cd player is on.

Hmmm, I never thought of that.. talk about not looking ahead!

Thanks, it looks like I'll have to figure out another wire to wire it to. I dont believe that my deck has that other wire on it.

Thanks again,
Daniel
