More speakers

I now have the 2 4x6's, 2 6x9's and three 12's. I listen primarily to rock and am looking for more speakers, not subs. We sell some extra 6x9 boxes at Best Buy and that got me thinking. I would build me some of MDF, but where can I put these for sound quality. Does adding speakers just kill the soundstage? I have heard it does, but see them rice cars with 19 speakers. What can I do to add more 5.25 or 6x9's and where? Thanx

More speakers kill the staging and don't exactly help the sound quality either. If you want it to sound better, try investing the extra money into some good separates in your kick panels instead of into more speakers.

first off do you have amps on your 4x6's or 6x9's. if not you might start there adding an eq also helps. i have 4x6's and 6x9's and get plenty of sound with the amp an eq pushing things along

Having lots of speakers does look kinda cool...but it really serves no useful purpose.

I'd certainly rather have one pair of $500 speakers than five pairs of $100 speakers.

I apprecate the input. Sounds like I'm keeping what i've got. I am currently running the 6x9's off 68Wrms each and the 4x6's off my head unit, Pioneer DEH-7200, which indicated 22Wrms. These are only meant for 25Wrms, should I get a seperate amp or maintain the origional one from the head unit? I didn't think there was much of a difference. Also, $500 6x9's? Is there such a thing that would be worth it?

I would amp the 4x6s for a couple reasons. The first being that the amp will give better sound quality than the deck at all levels, and the second being the ability to use the amp's high-pass crossover. That way you can run them at say 100hz and up instead of full range. That'll help in a number of ways. I also like my front speakers to be much louder than the rears. I use my rears for fill only. In my 86, I've got a 4 channel amp running a sub and the 4x6s and the deck powering the 6x9s. The 6x9s are only loud enough to give me a little fill, but not loud enough to make my front imaging suffer.

To my knowledge, nobody makes a pair of $500 6x9s, but there are plenty of 6.5" separates that cost that much and more.

actually the head unit I am using, since it is only pushing the 4x6's, has multiple level crossovers built in. Since the speakers are small, I was running them at 125hrz. There is also 50 and 80 available, but I found they play clearer louder at 125. Would the extra 3Wrms be worth getting a seperate amp and running a few more wires?

Absolutely. Deck power is fantasy power. My 30 watt Pioneer is substantially more powerful than any 45 watt deck on the planet, and sounds better too.

I appreciate the input. Down at BB, we are running some Cerwin Vega 4x6 plates, I got my friend to turn em on and they sounded very good, though were not amped. They claim to handle 50Wrms, and from my experiance with Vega, it can take more. My question is now.... would it be better to get them, and the kicks, or just really good kicks. The plates are 150, but only 60 with discount. Thanks

One or the other. Kicks and dash speakers will kill your imaging and because the speakers are physically different, the sound quality will suffer too.
